I put some parts together yesterday and it looks like I will have a nice rifle. I used a BCP M16A2 marked lower with some unused  A2 upper and a repo buttstock kit and a pinned 6921 barrel and BCG. I'm just waiting on a LPK. I bought this to make a Colt 20" rifle but I have these parts. What was I supposed to do? Not build a rifle? Was a rifle with these markings used by the Gov't in a carbine? Did FN ever make a 20" M16A2 marked rifle? I'm going to put in a big button FA and once I get some engraving done I want to refinsh in XM Grey.

I have a similar build on a BCP M16A2 lower but more of a 723 style.

As to your questions the actual 723 and 727 carbines that were purchased and used by the govt would have been on commercial M16A2 lowers and not marked US GOVT PROPERTY. They were never available in semi auto configuration though. So as far as I'm concerned these or Colt A2 Govt Carbine marked lowers are about the closest available.

FN made M16A2s yes.

Oh yes, they made quite a few. From 1988 on. I had an FN A2 in Iraq from 05-06. (Brigade staff position at that time, not a door kicker)

That's looking good, I really like the lower.  I love 727s.

Nice looking carbine. Who is going to be doing your engraving?

Got one of the first FN A2s at Fort McClellan, AL in 1992.
Active duty units had them a few years prior to that.

I'm going to use J&B Precision Smithworks. I found him here on ARFCOM. He did a 701 Clone for me and it was fabulous. Super nice guy and we did everything through email.

What color was the early FN A2's back in 1992?

Shades of gray, sometimes with a touch of purple.

Early FN's were marked with a dot matrix rather than engravings or roll marks. Not sure when they stopped marking them this way.

My FN M16A2 in Infantry OSUT at Fort Benning had dot matrix engravings.

I was surprised and disappointed when I wasn't met with a Colt when we drew them out of the arms room the first time.

I didn't even know FN was making them.  This was January, 1994, and they were beat up pretty bad.

Thanks

Hey F14ADC M&A is where I got the stock and I got the locking nut from AR15Sport but it does not have the little notches for staking. I checked with John Thomas to see if he could notch it for me but he said he did not do it.

You can easily do it yourself with a file

Finished for now. At least till the next batch of parts come in. I used a DPMS lpk, swapped the upper with a Fulton Armory with M4 feedramps, picked up a Colt stock and hg’s.

@jrs93accord, can you tell me about your barrel length and flash hider. I’ve got a 14.5” M4 barrel coming and I’m debating the most aesthetic way of getting it to 16”. Thanks.

cardude, yours looks like an extended hider. Correct?

It is an x tended A2 it's one of my favorite suppressors. I like it better than the one the new Colt's are using on the socom. I like the longer slots.

I've put 20 rds through it and it works great.
