My friend wants me to build him a 7.62x39 AR. I figured out everything but the barrel nut and rail situation. Are 7.62x39 AR's compatible with 308 rail systems?

Not usually.  Mine use a standard AR15 upper. That would mean a standard rail, unless you are working with something odd.

No, 7.62x39 ARs use AR15 platform and not the AR10 platform.
