Hey guys,

Pretty new to ARs, currently half way through my first build and already planning my next.

With the 6.5 variant, what else is different then the standard .223/5.56?.

I know the barrel obviously, along with the bolt,  and it would likely need a heavier buffer.

But as far as the lower, is anything different? Could I just swap an upper onto my current build and reuse the lower?
I'd assume I needed new mags as well.

Thanks for the info

yep, barrel, bolt, and mags.

My grendel works with my old 6.8SPC mags.

you can swap uppers, but eventually a lower will go on sale, and you'll end up with 2 rifles.

then you'll build another upper and have 3 uppers, and 2 lowers.

the pattern repeats itself until you need a bigger gun safe, then another gunsafe.

I just skipped gun safes and went straight to an armory, because I wasn't in denial about my problem.

No need for heavier buffers if the gas port is cut correctly for the gas system length and ammo you plan to shoot.

They run normally on 100-130gr projectiles with the factory AA R&D dimensions, which basically mimic 5.56 gas ports and locations coincidentally.

When you suppress with certain gas system/barrel lengths, or shoot lighter bullets, you step on the edge or outside of the configurations that run 100-130gr well.

Show Off! I know it’s a personal problem but I didn’t have the budget for an armory and my wife likes expensive toys like utv’s and tractors along with multiple four wheel drive vehicles. So I had to settle for a gun safe or three.

Now back on topic bolt barrel and magazines. I do like the JP silent capture buffer because it’s quiet while hunting.
