Just ordered a 450 barrel from Tromix as part of my first 450 build.

I passed on the muzzle brake as I thought I could pick one up latter that had a different look.

After searching for a good while, only option I am finding is the GLFA.

There are some options on fleabay.

Did not realize there were such limited options to get a .458 with 5/8 threads.

I checked all the standard sites that advertise here.

Anyone know of a source?

tks

I'm pretty sure Satern has them too because of 45 raptor

Many .308 brakes can be opened up to clear a .452 bullet so find a 5/8 x 24 brake you like, make sure there are no deep radial rings or other BS that will make it too thin when opened up to .490-.500, and have Paladin Machine Shop Service open it up.  Tp555(at)windstream.net.

Our 450BM barrels are threaded 11/16-24.
Our 458 SOCOM barrels are 5/8-24.

My Tromix .450 barrel was threaded 11/16-24.

I did not like any of the brake choices available so I went with the A2 style that Windham Weaponry sells.

Silencerco might have one since their Hybrid 46 suppressor is tailor made for thumper calibers.  Some threadings are available in both brakes and flash hiders and some aren't.

ETA: AC1570 in the drop down menu shows a .46 brake in 3 thread pitches.

Why are they different?

5/8-24 was chosen for the .458 SOCOM back in 2001 since there were virtually no .45 caliber muzzle devices available at the time.  That allowed users to bore out any .308 muzzle device and use it on their 458 SOCOM.  Don't forget, we were only making/selling about 2-3 uppers/barrels per month back then.  It didn't make economical sense to run off a big ass CNC batch for those kind of quantities.  Even today, most customers like to have the option of using modified .308 brakes on their 458's.  The 5/8" thread also allows for a decent size shoulder to square up a suppressor, even on our lightweight .750" barrels.

You would have to ask Bushmaster why they chose 11/16-24 as the standard thread on those barrels.
