The Vism thumbhole is better than the Gen 1 Hera, albeit slightly heavier and shorter.
I'll try to link a TFB article later. |

View Quote I never handled a rifle with the Vism stock but ANYTHING has to be better then the Gen 1 HERA Stock I'mn glad I used it for a replica of a movie prop rifle that won't be shot much The Gen 2 HERA stock is way better in feel and exacution |

Yuck. The changes are aesthetic only and do not improve functionality (they are in fact detrimental to both aesthetics and functionality)
Lost ability to add optic Lost ability to adjust stock reduced stock shoulder purchase stock and foregrip unnecessarily large and add weight |

Quoted: I have applied a white base coat to the receiver set and used emery boards to break all of the edges The crackle finish on the HERA parts came out great, better than I expected Now I just need to learn how to dry brush so I can tone down the receiver set before I apply the various washes to the whole rifle https://i.imgur.com/ndFP49s.jpg would like to know more about the carry handle though. https://i.imgur.com/025CnC5.jpg View Quote It’s not for everyone. Neat. But not something I’d want. Nicely done though. I did use a Hera Gen 1 on a space force lower for just some bolt together fun. Looks funny handles like crap. |

While light b/c it's hollow, it really isn't a great thumbhole stock. You can mount a monopod on the bottom Picatinny rail, however. |

Quoted: Here's a DOOM/Aliens style Space Carbine I built a few months ago using the Gen 1 stock set that I repainted in OD Green: https://imgur.com/LMiMx3N https://imgur.com/RaX110h https://imgur.com/G40B47i Lower is an Anderson lower without the rollmark with a PDQ ambi bolt hold/release added Upper is basic mil spec but with a heavy fluted barrel, and an aluminum quad rail handguard to get the front grip as close as possible to the lower. The Hera grips required full disassembly for installation, as the front grip did not easily slide onto the handguard when the cross bolts were removed View Quote Have to use the actual link to the .jpg: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I've always like space/futuristic AR builds. They are a lot of fun.
Hera has a neat look, unfortunately not as solidly built as would be expected (Gen2 is much improved over Gen1). |

View Quote I found the Gen 1 solid enough for ordinary AR duties. Easily reinforced, as it's hollow, so go nuts w/ 2-part epoxy and all the steel rods you want. I don't find the Gen 2 a very useful thumbhole stock for ARs. It meets the minimum standard of a thumbhole stock, but it provides very little additional reinforcement for the buffer tube boss, which is one of the primary benefits of an AR thumbhole. |

That looks awesome!
@BobaDebt great job on paint, I'm really impressed with your crinkle paint I asked a few posts above, but I never got a response, who makes that carry handle sight? |

Not really my cup of tea, but certainly interesting.
The nubby stock is just a little too odd for my taste, my neck hurts looking at it.... I wish the SRU airsoft set was molded from high temp polymer instead of printed. Supposedly can be had in a version that fits real stuff. They say don't leave it in your hot car or it might warp. ![]() |

I did a blaze orange and black crinkle finish for a guy quite some years ago on his .308 Rem700 ADL he used for deer hunting. The orange crackle that showed through looked pretty nice. Clear coated it with a few coats of dulling spray. |

I always liked the look of the Gen 1 Hera stock sets. May do a goof off build up for shits and giggles off of one of my SBRed lowers
