My first AR-15 (back in 2000) was a lowly pre-ban Olympic Arms 16" A2 lightweight carbine.
It's long gone and since been replaced by a half dozen constantly evolving, more modern configurations. I've really been wanting to build a simple lightweight A2 carbine again, mainly as a gift for my son. Basically, the same configuration I started with, but higher quality. I've got everything I need except for the barrel. Does anyone offer a lightweight carbine gas barrel? I'd take a 16, 14.7 or 14.5" length. Preferably, with an A2 height FSB. |

Ballistic advantage at the link. You just missed a good sale, maybe another one is coming up.

Not the direction I was steering. I missed the fact that there was an option to add a FSB. My bad. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Too bad no phosphate option. Or phos/CLd View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

BCM has several variants meeting that criteria. They are pretty good.

My colt 6720 is hard to beat. I’ve seen them as low as $899. Great rifle for sure!

My boy (15) and I just did this project. Palmetto State had LW upper on sale and I already had a POF lower.
He did all the work. Once he learns irons I’ll get him a red dot. Attached File |

I really miss when you could custom configure any barrel assembly or upper you wanted from CMMG. I've got 4 uppers I got from them back when you could pick the barrel length, profile, gas system, barrel extension, gas block/FSB, muzzle device, etc.
Those were the days... |
|
This is what I'm trying to re-create. So simple, yet so difficult to find the barrel...

Look on Gunbroker, I’ve seen several Colt SP1 barrels for sale there.

What's wrong with BA? You just missed another good sale.
The height really doesn't matter. I have several F marked sights on fixed carry handle uppers. You just missed a good sale on the delton barrel above as well, which has A2 and CL as addons. The 20" I ordered from them with those features was $155, hand guards and all. |

I am a big fan of Faxon Firearms' barrels.
They have the lightest weight pencil barrels I can find but not with FSB installed and they have mid length gas not carbine, not sure if that's a deal killer for you. I'd try this one, this one, this one, or this one. Might mean you have to do a bit more work and sourcing of parts, depending on what you want for length and style but they are well reviewed and you won't find much lighter if at all at those lengths/profiles. |

Just got a 26" pencil bbl turned by Paladin Machine Service in SC. Very pleased w/ it.

I picked up a colt leo trade in that looks just like that. I believe the model is a 6520, though mine says A2 gov't carbine on it.
You might find a trade in easier than sourcing all the parts. Other than that maybe someone has a colt 6720 take off barrel? |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't DD consolidate all their gas blocks to .750?
