I'm trying to decide on a scope mount in either 1.50/1.54/1.70 inch ring height for a precision AR-15 I've put together. It will mostly be for bench/prone shooting, no running & gunning, and it won't be a LVPO. It will have a little more magnification with a 42mm objective lens.
I had a AR a while back that had used a LT-104 mount, which I believe is 1.50 which seemed fine. I'm looking to switch it up and either go Badger COMM or NF Unimount. NF only offers 1.50 as the highest. Badger I'm thinking either 1.54 or 1.70. I'm not sure if I'll notice a big difference trying to get a good cheekweld if I go 1.7" or not, probably not.

Thoughts of going up in height to 1.7" or maybe even lower to 1.37ish ???

Some of us, like me, run into consistency issues if you go below some magic height, which in my case is about 1.3" on an AR pattern rifle.
Those 1.2875" rings on an AR just don't quite do it for me, despite liking the cheek weld and feeling all good behind the scope.
However, and probably in contrast to some other shooters, raising the cheek weld higher towels the 1.7" or even 1.94" doesn't adversely effect me near as much even with the less ideal cheek weld.
Maybe all that NV training is helping here, or the "heads up" cheek weld with IR lasers and goggles, but no matter what under 1.3" and my consistency goes to shit.

With a 42mm scope I would think the 1.5" would be ideal.

Unless you have a weird face, iron sight height 1.4" +/- a tiny bit. It's another thing I relate to Clint Smith talking about AR reloads - "Quit fucking with God and Eugene." If in doubt, higher is more functional than lower.

Standard 1.5" gives me a perfect cheek weld. I have a 22LR with a lower center due to 1" scope tube and I have to really scrunch down to get dialed in. I wouldn't go any lower than 1.5

Ya I'm leaning 1.5". There are newer options out there so I figured I ask. I know LT makes a SRP-S which is 1.44" instead of the normal 1.5". Probably that much isn't going to make one bit of difference anyway.

Anything from 1.350" to 1.5" works great for me. Lower is a no go.

1.44" to 1.54" is a cheek weld. Anything lower is a no go, anything higher you have to hover your cheek in prone.

I'm trying the NF unimount but I'm not sure if it has enough forward extension. May send that back. Also ordered the Scalerworks and should have that this week. Both are 1.50 to 1.57.
