That's my question. Do all these startup manufacturers pay to have their own forging made? Or do they source theirs from someone else and put their own roll mark on it?

They get there forgings from a few sources.

The getting the markings and machine work is not the same.  There are hundreds of places for stuff like that.

Clearer picture now of the process. Thanks.

It would be even cooler to have retro lowers with rollmarks similar to these...

I just want the smallest (most discrete) rollmark possible.  Stag's wouldn't be bad, if you filled in the deer and only left the legally required info.

What would be even cooler was if Stallion was spelled correctly.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

The prancing pony would be a trademark issue for sure.

I think it Couch-Commando or someone else had a Stallion logo that looked like a pony vomiting.  I would buy one of those.

I would so buy one of those XM177 or M16A1 ones if it said PROPERTY OF U.S. GOV'T like it was supposed to.

I would buy 2-3 of them at $200.00 each, just to finish up the projects I have on hold. To me, my M-16/M-16A1 clones don't look right with an A2 type receiver... My eyes keep zeroing on the 2 re-enforced areas.

It's the "little things" that catch my eyes!!

I have spoke with Vaughn of Essential Arms about the A1 lowers. He has forged lowers coming out in Sandstrom 9.

I would encourage all on this thread to contact him, link here so he can get a feel for how much of a market there is and how much we would be willing to pay for them.

Would he make new forging dies or would he grind down an A2 lower?

More than likely no new dies. What would be the point of that?

Just mill of the extra and beadblast to make it all look smooth. Much like what goes on with LRB arm's M-25. From my understanding his original forging dies were modified so the could have the metal to carve out the rail. His M14 reciever comes from the same die, the excess is milled off.

As previously stated, anyone who is interested give Vaughn a call and express your interest.

Come on, it isn't the same prancing pony (it's reversed)
I wonder if a roll mark of a pony running would be a trade mark issue...

And if Colt or Government employees are looking at this, it is entirely a joke, and i have no intention of violating copyright laws.  Man my tinfoil hat is heavy!
