I just bought 3 cases (10 boxes in case) at one of the new Wal Marts on the outskirts of town. The lady told me that Winchester had been sold but didn't know anything about a price increase. I hit this store about 2 weeks ago and cleaned them out of about 7 boxes.
It appears it hasn't gone up here since I bought some at another store yesterday.
JRandyH

Unsolicited advice: never take ANY advice from "The lady at walmart". hinking.gif

For what it is worth: Winchester is not making firearms now, they are still going strong with ammo production. I used to live near the plant in Alton, Illinois, and that place will be operating for years and years.

Olin makes the ammo not Winchester. And the ammo everyone is talking about is made by IMI in Israel.

As of yesterday, I purchase some WWB 40/bx for $7.73/bx at the Wally World in Cullman, Alabama. But now I gotta check it out again before I go to pick up my wife from work.  heck

I bought the last boxes I could find this morning. It was still $7.73 but the clerk knew that it was going up. He remarked to me that I was lucky because he hadn't gotten the chance to do the price change. I'm done, I got everything I could lay my hands on the last couple of days which amounts to only about 20 more boxes. For people in the Denver area, if you are interested, the Highlands Ranch store had 30 boxes as of last night but it was already marked up to $9.98.

Dammit just when I get hooked on something the price goes up. I was in Wal-Mart Monday night and it was still $7.73. I believe I'll be headed there as soon as I get off work this afternoon. I've got two Wal-Marts to cover, one in the town where I work and one at home.

If the price has gone up I won't be buying it.

A little more info. I just got of the phone with someone from Olin. I called them yesterday before
we heard about the price increase. A person from the "technical department" called back a minute ago and said that there are no plans to stop making the value pack for Wal-Mart. He said that there should be better availability in 3 weeks or so. Thats great but I think that I would rather have Q3131 at $5.00/box than the value pack.

CRAP!

Went up here in western NC to 9.98 a box.

Time to find something else...

no wonder he said availabilty will increase, it usually does when you raise the price, because no one will buy it at the new price.

Walmart opened a new store by me at the beginning of the year & it's the only store I have ever found to have any of the WWB 40rd packs.  Problem is they only carry a case of 10 boxes at a time.  Last week I got lucky & got all 10 boxes. Went in today & not only did they not have any but the price sticker had been removed from the shelf.  All the other ammo was priced  the same.  Not sure if they took it off to put the new price on or what but lady couldn't check since there were no boxes to scan.  Finally find some to buy & now they either don't carry it at that store anymore or they are raising the price to not make it worth buying.  Hopefully their 100rd .45 ammo doesn't go up.

Why buy that for $10/40 ($5/20 for you public school grads), when you can get the Q3131 at Bass Pro for $4.50/20?

Called Einstein at Walmart and finally got him to tell me that it was $10/box and has been that price since the store opened (maybe two years ago).  Asked him for the part number so I could verify he was hosing me on the right ones.  He insisted there is no part number for that ammo but the lot number is USA223R1VP.

Guess it is more Wolf...

I guess if it went up in Western, NC were are to follow in SC.
Why not buy Q3131? This stuff shoot rings around it. When I go shooting I want to not only see what I can do but what my guns will do. This is far more accurate than the slightly hotter Q3131.

Bought the last 4 boxes on the shelf last night for 7.73 each and was told they would have more out today.  They did but it is now 9.98.

However they still have some Remington 55 FMJ for 3.97/box of 20.  Will have to start using that for now.

Never once saw it available in many visits over months to China-Mart. Always just the varmit stuff.

Just left my local Walmart with the last 7 boxes of 40 rd value packs. Guy was in process of remarking all the ammo with increased prices. Said I was lucky, in about 30 min he would of gotten to the 223 section. Still got it for 7.73 but looks like that is over.

Ok, I just got back from my  local Walmart (Winston-Salem, NC) and the prices were still 7.73 so I bought every box they had (10) just in case. The manager said he hadn't heard anything on a price increase but then said he didnt find some things out until a day ahead of time so you never know. Anyway, now I have 400 rounds to organize and pack away.

Im beginning to think this is all just an evil plan to get my wife mad at me for spending too much this month on gun related items.

Ive been picking up 10 boxes at a time since Nov.  when I got my bushy. I picked up 10 more today @  $7.73 which brings my total plinking  rounds to 224 boxes of wwb win.  8960 of plinking.
But  I keep 2500 of XM193 for bad times.

The wwb is very accurate in my rifle, better than Federal 223  IMHO,

PS. Im just south of Tampa

.223 WWB $9.98 here. One store sold out, tags removed from counter. Another store has plenty but at the new price of $9.98. 9mm WWB 11.98 up from 11.37. We can all speculate on the reasons but the truth is the price is going up.

I still can't believe that I learn so much stuff here.  Troy predicted this shortage / price increase in his >>Ammo Shortages<< tacked thread over a year ago!  Thanks!!!  I heard from other members recently that something was going to change for the worse with the WWB, and I'm glad I listened and bought out the Wally's around here earlier this week.  I'm not buying any at $9.98...

Checked at the Supercenter that I shop at and it has went up here(American Fork, Utah) as well.

I have no problem seeing a price increase, but to increase the price by over $2.00 a box is too much.

I have always prefered Black Hill BB because it shoots better in my rifles, but I do buy this stuff and like to have a few boxes around. It looks like the few boxes I have left will be it for me, as there is no way I will pay $10.00 a box.

So I learn from this board that the price is going up.  I stop at the west side Walmart and they are out.  It has been deleted from thier inventory.  I then head off to the range and shoot for a couple of hours.  After I get home, I thought I might try another Walmart in the area.  I call up and get the Sporting Goods department manager.  He says that he has 6 boxes and he is in the process of raising the price to $9.98.  I ask if I can get it at the lower price and he says: "If you tell me (local store) has it for the old price, I can discount it for you".  I, of course, say "Why, yes they do."  He says he will give me the old price and set them aside for me.  YEAH, BABY!!!!!!

So I run right over there to pick them up.  They are there waiting for me behind the counter, just like he said they would.  I asked him about them being deleted at the other store in town.   He said they weren't deleted at his store.  He then checks the hand held scanner and sure enough: deleted.   However, he was still able to order 10 more boxes and will get whatever is left in the warehouse in about 10 days.  I will try back again in 10 days to see. I also asked about the price increase.  He said they would probably go back down after comparing prices to other stores in the area.  I hope that is true, but I won't hold me breath.

I got lucky on that transaction.  They guy was helpful, knowledgeable, and nice.  WOW!

I love this ammo.  I hope it isn't gone for good.

After reading this thread, I made a beeline to a Wallyworld about 20 miles from me that I had visited a couple days ago. I always cruise the ammo section to see if they have anything on clearence and noticed a shelf overflowing with WWB .223 value packs. I didn't buy any because I already have a couple thousand put back.

Anyway back to today. I arrive at the ammo section with my adrenaline pumping and sure enough the slot is still packed full. I ask the nice lady how much and she says $7.73. I ask her to scan it before I go into my victory dance. Still $7.73   SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   20 boxes!

I quickly pay and make my way out to my truck with my booty and a stupid sly grin on my face.

Yes, I am an ammo junkie and there is no help for me.

Anyone who pays them $250 + tax for that WWB per 1000 rnds needs his head examined.

Walmart ain't stupid .... some pencil pusher in a couple months will begin to ponder why this particular ammo's sales is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY down.

Probability of it dropping in price in the future ....... 1/10000

I stopped by Walmart this afternoon. The guy at the counter confirmed that the 9mm value pack went up in price even though he hasn't had any in stock for the past week. He also said that Winchester is going to discontinue the .223 40rd value pack. He's not just a useless body standing behind the counter. He's a shooter himself and has several NFA firearms so I take him a little more seriously than most people working at Walmart.
