I propose a ban on John being able to post on this forum as his stuff is always so cool, I will never own it and it makes me jealous. You are the 1%er of the AR world so don't make me camp out in a park near your house!

Holy Smoke!!! John you simply amaze those of use who can only wish to have something as cool as your collection. Your sir are a true artisan to the retro world!

He made it with his own two hands, so I don't mind at all. Every one of his projects is a privilege just to be able to look at! |

Nice work John.I hope to see some more builds from you like this in the future.

that's sweet. i really like you bolt catch mod. so you put the roll pin through the catch and then drop it down into place right? and then you pin the roll pin from the hole in front?

Basically... but I didn't use a roll pin. I made a "L" shaped solid pin (rotate the "L" 90 degrees clockwise). The tiny roll pin goes through the forward part of the rotated "L"... the part that goes deeper into the recevier prevents rotation. It's really hard to explain. John Thomas |

Thanks to everyone very, very much for the compliments. I'm somewhat surprised at how popular this is based on the original post where I first wrote about the idea. I didn't get a very good vibe overall... in fact, I almost passed on making it. I'm glad now I did. I'm looking foward to getting it to the range for an operational check and sight in.
Thanks again, John Thomas |

I think that makes it worse as now it makes me feel inferior as a man!
Great work as always! Quoted:

That is art, creativity, and machinist talent all rolled in to one.
Question, how in the world did you create a flat outer magwell surface on the side with the Pegasus? When I look at the magwell spaces on my lowers, it seems that if I were to plane flat that part of the lower, it would eat right into the magwell. |

To answer your question, that thin aluminum sheet metal doesn't stand a change against a ball peen hammer. I just supported the inside of the mag with a piece of steel and hammered the tab flat. I've gotta tell ya, I'm so envious of his talents. I admire all his builds and faux work. I love seeing his builds. Thanks for sharing them with us. |

I saw a wall of text after reading the first paragraph, so went on to the pics.
Then read all the text. Then relooked at the pics three more times. Totally awesome. And this: "Something worth mentioning is I had an odd aftermarket front sight base that was the origin of this whole project, but I didn't even end up using that part!" Can we have a pic of the inspirational part that didn't make it on to the gun? And in for a five-rounds-loaded test of 25rd mag. |

I dig it. Very creative. Maybe throw a Rapidex Windage Knob on her for shitz-n-grins. I bought an info packet on the AR16, even has the receiver photocopied 1:1 scale, that I'd like to whip up. |

I went ahead and upgraded my account. Let me know if you can see them now. I guess since they are in my album, I could see them all along. I didn't realize they weren't showing up.
