You just gotta love that makeshift swimming pool. |

Thanks, thats what I figured, just haven't seen anything exactly like that before on a eastern-bloc weapon. Seen them on M14s and the like.

OP: You said you had a 4.5G load of pictures?
I can't at the moment but in a couple weeks I'd pay you to get a CD/USB copy of them. I've saved a crap-ton of Vietnam and Rhodesian Bush War pictures, most I see all the time, a lot of these are very new to me. GREAT job, some really awesome stuff and I've already saved a few pictures |

Fantastic pics OP.
First off, that mountain of empty artillery shells is really something. Second, who's the Blonde on pages 1&2? Somebody famous or somebody's girl? |

Nice reference for weapons. Noticed a few things.
One cache of enemy weapons had at least one M-14 rifle stacked (maybe 3?). You'd think our guys would just grab their own stuff back and remove from the captured weapons pile? (Unless there was an M-14 copy in Viet Nam!?) A nice number of "partial fence" M-16s. One had no forward assist and a three pronged open FH. Most had forward assists. 0823221317443_22_3523089648_dab0473cfe_o_zps3daf4d44.jpg There was one XM177 hanging on a soldiers shoulder that appeared to NOT be an E2, but obviously had more barrel length than an E1, as there was some barrel forward of the front sight tower. ? Maybe it WAS an E2 with the grenade ring removed? Interesting. 0104190106640_244_8948440772_5f15f03c28_o_zps932d0805.jpg Also, one M-16 shows a 30 round mag. His bandoleers looked to be filled with 20 round backups, but the mag in the weapon is not one of the later Colt compound curve 30 rounders. I believe it is one of the early steel 30 round mags made by some manufacturer ( I have never been able to determine who?) during the early Armalite days. 0823001343301_062_2054787236_b1113dcf7c_o_zpscb892e15.jpg |

Wasn't there was some kind of accounting done for enemy weapons, like an official procedure through ordnance tracking etc. Some of it must have fallen through the cracks no doubt. Plenty of pics of our servicemen with AKs. I read that some of the special forces liked to wear black PJs and carry AKs, to blend in in the boonies. Some of the pics illustrate that.
Great stuff! Please keep the pics coming. |
