AAC in turn says they won't warranty a can damaged while being used on one of the SIG mounts b/c they of course would like to sell you their mount.

AAC had that policy before they stopped including the mounts with their silencers.  If I were an manufacturer and some goofball gun like the Sig came out with a mount for my cans that I didn't make, I wouldn't warrantee the use if it either.

I still that they aren't including a mount with the silencers any more.

ETA:  And that policy of theirs still doesn't make my point any less valid.

With the current BATF rant on mounts, you HAVE to purchase your mount when you purchase your "can".

That issue was with 3 lug mounts and pistol can boosters wasn't it?  I don't recall it having anything to do with normal rifle mounts.

FYI, I don't think the "pinging" has to do anything with the open ended design. I have several AAC CLOSED ended flash suppressors and they also "ting". I have tried other open end flash suppressors that aren't hardened (even a knock off "Vortex") and they don't make that noise so I'm pretty sure it's more a function of the HARDNESS of the steel that AAC/SEI/etc. uses.

WRONG.

Closed-prong flash hiders can also ping, they're just probably not going to ping as long as the open ones.

One of the things to check on an M14/M1A, for example, is to see if the flash hider rings when you hit it.  If it doesn't, it likely has a crack somewhere in it.

I agree.  My closed end mount pings very slightly when I dry fire.  It's his metal hardness theory that I was objecting to.

That was my understanding as well, markm, but folks still ran out and bought a shitload of rifle mounts.

Does this look like a 3-Lug mount?

Copy of an email from Yankee Hill Machine:
Sir,
Unfortunately I have bad news. We were finially notified by ATF Monday morning that we can no longer sell individual pistons, 3-lug adapters, fixed barrel adapters and most other componets seperately. We can sell a sound suppressor with one attaching device and that is it. We are not very happy to say the least. This is going to affect our business tremendousely. Apparently we were the first, and now ATF is going to go after all other sound suppressor manufacturers as well. We are going to fight this, and the owner of this company has already contacted some attorneys about taking legal action. As you saw we were forced to take all the products off our web page or face legal action by ATF. We are waiting to hear the final word on the QD mounts, and I am not expecting good news about them either. All I can tell you now is to be patient while we appeal ATF's ruling and hopefully get it overturned. Sorry for the inconvience, however our hands are tied at the moment, and no one is more upset than us over this matter.

Another copy of an email from Yankee Hill Machine:

We have instructed our sales team not to sell additional mounts at this time. Suppressors are still available for sale and will include one mount of your choice. We cannot comment any further until we have a final determination from the ATF in this matter.

Hmmm, I know a SOT through a good friend, and he (the SOT) is saying no other silencer makers have been affected by this, just YHM.

Most machines generate sound in the dissipation of energy, such as is the case of AR buffer springs; Blackouts very effectively reduce muzzle flash as per your posts.
