I belong to a couple of different clubs. The close club is a target club and they have a one round only rule for rifles. No need for strippers there. The other is a bit of a drive, but anything goes. Trips to that range are a take a day off affair. In order to make best use of my time, ammo is carried on strippers.

...I put the ammo on stripper clips and store them in standard 12 ga. 25 round shotshell boxes, 12 strippers (stacked alternating) and a loading spoon to a box.

I just tried that... wow that's a perfect fit.  You'd think the box was made for the .223 instead of the 12.

Does anyone make a stripper clip for the ar that is like the sks stripper clip? The AR strippers just break too easily, even though they are cheap to obtain.

I posted this in a seperate thread, but I think it deserves mention here again:

I had ordered $20 in merchandise from Chuck at Wu's surplus a few weeks ago, but the order never arrived. I know he doesn't answer e-mail  very often, so I was patient. I finally did ask him about the status of the order recently. He stated that he overlooked my order and would send the items out ASAP. On top of that, he refunded my Paypal payment! I told him  to split the difference, but he refunded it all.

It's not a huge amount of money, but it's great to know someone still cares. Hats off to Chuck ! [beer]

The beta loader is great for loading for 5.56 strippers into magazines.  You literally drop a full stripper into the loader, slap the top, rounds load and the empty stripper sticks to a magnetic, remove it and drop another full one.  Loads 30 rounds in around 5 seconds.

cost is about $20 at gunshows

Just a quick note on the massive CDI factor when using S.C's at the range.

It's deer season and the rifle shed at a range north of me (Colin County for you locals) was getting busy.  I had a father/son team in the bay to my right.  I was going for accuracy that day so I only used my 10-round mag.  Each time I'd grab a new clip of ammo I could swear "Dad" would take a break to watch me zip those rounds home, thinking "Damn, that is so neat!"

Reloading can be fun.

how tight should ammo be on the stripper clip?
I think some of mine are too tight to be usable when it comes time to load from them
maybe I'll have to spend some time switching clips since I have more unloaded clips than loaded

This may be a dumb question, but here goes:

Do USGI strippers and spoons work with the English SA-80 magazines?

I can't see why they wouldn't work, though I don't own any of the SA-80 mags to try it.

Of course when they are teens they'll probably be shooting most of the ammo then too. I can't wait to see my ammo bills then [:D]

Do you actually use your stripper clips, or do you just load them and store them?  The first ones I got I tried loading mags with them just so I'd be familiar with the procedure.  But since then, my stripper clips are loaded in bandoliers, stored in ammo boxes, waiting for the day I realize I don't need so much  SHTF stuff.

Mine too...  besides, I like to see a couple thousand rounds of ammo neetly stacked and laid in rows.

Is there any harm in loading a long term storage can with stripper clips not in bandoleers?

I've got the .50 cal cans, Q3131A, clips, and desiccant, but only a couple 4-pocket bandoleers.   I'm thinking about just filling the can with ammo on clips, but I want to ask what those in the know think.

AUSTRALIAN  .308/7.62 NATO   5 Pocket Bandoleers  work great for .223/5.56 NATO.
Each holds 100 rounds w/spoon. They are Very High Quality. They have snaps and adjustable strap.
(5) Bandoleers (500 rounds) will fit very well in a .50CAL ammo can, and isn't to heavy to carry.
Also they are easy to count @100 rounds each. Stripper clips in these are definitely a good way to go.
Works Very Well For Me. You can load 12/30 round mags and 7/20 round mags per can.

Two words went through my mind when I first saw those pictures:

Holy $#|+`!!

I obviously need to buy more ammo.  I have "several hundred" rounds of LC in mags and on strippers but that little hot lead buffet just blows me away!  You've gotta love that dissy-mod bayonet, too.

I working on finding a cheap source of the Brit/Aussie 7.62 5-pocket bandoleers, too.  Once I buy all I need I'll pass the info along.  I've heard that the latest-issue bandos use velcro instead of snaps.  Can anyone confirm this?

Oh, and I have all the cardboards you need (30rnd type).  IM me if you need some on the cheap.

I was able to put 9 four pocket bandoleers (1080 rounds) in a .50 cal ammocan/fuze box. They are the cans that Cheaper Than Dirt call tall ammo cans. I ordered 4 or 5 of them a couple of years ago.I put the can on its side and stacked 5 bandoleers with the flaps unfolded then slid them in. I was careful to alternate what end the strap was wrapped and what side the chargers were pinned. After I tilted the ammo can, all the bandoleers slid into place. I then accordian folded four more bandoleers and fit them in like paving bricks with the charger spoons pinned to the top of them.
My father gave me an ammo box that's the same as a .50 ammo can but it's about 18 inches tall. I was able to put more than 2500 rounds of Barnaul 7.62 X 39 in boxes in it. I wonder how many bandoleers it would hold using that method? I guess in the name of science I must by some more bandoleers and ammo and see..
I guess I'm addicted to strippers now.

I store all of my .223/M193 ammo on stripper clips in .50 cal cans and I have  800+ rounds on stripper clips of LC, in bandoleers, in some "special" .50 cal cans for SHTF.

It really is nice and easy to use stripper clips at the range.  I usually take 5  or so magazines and one .50 cal can full of stripper rounds.  You do get some strange looks from the "non-believers", but it makes for good conversation too.

This thread brings up a question of mine:  Is there a secret to how to get the maximum number of bandoleers (4 pocket/30 rds per pocket with cardboard) in a .50 cal ammo can?

Believe it or not, I had pretty good luck ironing bandoliers before loading them up and storing them in a .50 can.

I know it sounds dumb, but they fold up a lot better when the fabric is not wrinkled.

Edit: Use a steam iron... and don't iron the strap...

got some stripper clips and so far every one is so tight I can't get a round more than halfway down the clip before it binds up so much I almost can't even get it back off

edit: ok, I found a way of taking one round and rocking it back and forth as I move it down the clip. doing that the full length 2 or 3 times is loosing them up ok

Wish I had a stash to put on stipper clips (can't help my itchy trigger finger).  The pitiful amount of XM193 I have is on strippers and it is very handy for range work.  I always get interesting looks and questions from others.

? on 4 pocket bandoleers..

I thought I would take a chance and try some from SG..They do not show any markings on them so I will assume they are not Mil Spec. They have a full pocket-no thread to use for "adjustment" of pockets..Of course no other goodies with them..

Anyone else see these,a knockoff or what do ya think??

I got some 7 pockets too from them and came with safety pin and were date marked - if this means anything ..

Thanks for any info..

Sand, dirt of any kind is causing your stripper clips to be tight.  Tap the sand from each one before you load it or blow them out with compressed air.  They will work smooth if they are clean.
