$1500 for a fighting rifle?

In no particular order...

Bravo Company
Colt 6920
Daniel Defense XV or DDM4
LMT Defender

I'd buy either what's least expensive for you or the one that has your favorite rollmark.  IMO, all four are fantastic rifles.

Is Noveske on par with Colt?

I'd suggest for that desire - you get a Larue complete upper for about $1100 and add a quality lower like an LMT.  I have that combo, and its the best $1500-ish I spent on any of my rifles.

As for the 2nd question - I guess it depends on your application, but I think Noveskes are generally regarded as better than colts.

As mentioned if you must choose from that list Colt is easily #1.

If you want the best rifle for $1500 though look at:

Colt
BCM
Noveske

Colt and BCM are your milspec workhorse guns.  Extremely reliable and well made.  Noveske is more like the Ferrari but I'd trust my life to it any day.  Much more ritzy than the pony or BCM.

Easy.... Colt 6940

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet but you should go with the Colt.

If you want good value for your money, look into BCM. Quality is on par w/ Colt & they offer midlengths as well.

This.

here is the BCM midlength... just get on the email list for when they come in stock

BCM BCG, amazingly still in stock

BCM Charging handle

BCM Lower, if you want to go all BCM or choose another lower and pick a stock

Add your choice of handguards and iron sights and you've got a quality gun for a pretty good price.

ETA: serves me right for not reading the whole thread first, you've already come to this conclusion. Anyway, there are some links for you. With what I see you have listed, you'll have a great gun.

BCM all the way

Yeah, the 6940 or the BCM is what its down to.

Theres 2 different uppers from BCM that I have to choose from. One's in the $400s and the other in the $600s. Im trying to decide which one.

For $1,500

The Robinson Arms XCR

Check out the specs and what you get then compare that which ever AR you can name.  Comes out on tops in almost all ways:

*Monolith upper with continuous top rail
*folding stock
*AK style piston
*Wont have to worry about black extractor insert, spring etc.
*List goes on and on

Wait for a 16" mid from Bravo. They should be in stock shortly, so keep an eye out.

$485 shipped
$160 for F/A BCG
$400 for complete BCM lower shipped and transferred

= $1045 for your base AR

He may not need handguards if he wants a rail.

A CMT charging handle is $20

A quality BUIS is $100 at most if researched well. E-bay and the EE can provide that price.

$1165 for base AR

The difference to $1500 will get the rail and mags. + some ammo.

Of course, this price could come down by $75-100 with a "Franken" built lower. Which is what I would do.

So you guys recommend the BCM upper that is in the $400s?
i want a rail system, but I can get that later. Ill be fine with the basic hand guard for the first few months. and with the money Ill save building the BCM Ill be able to go to Impact and get 1000 rounds of Wolf .223 ammunition.

Heres the final setup(most likely)

BCM Upper
BCM Lower
BCM BCG
BCM Charging Handle
Troy Rear Sight
Magpul PMAGs
Handguard

If I were you Id buy the colt if I could find a 14.5" colt M4 barrel to throw onto it, 16" M4 barrels looks silly IMO.  Id save a little more and buy a Larue Stealth DMR-16 upper and build up a Stealth lower to match it.

Another scenario...

$1000 shipped - Noveske Upper .....BUIS, handguards, CH and BCG included.
$400 - BCM complete lower (or equivalent)..shipped and transferred

Just to think about.....

The Colt 6921 is the 14.5" M4 barreled version.  Factory SBR.

Grand Total $1490
savings of $10 for a "ferrari of ar's"

oh yea $25 bucks for the front grip

How much does this rifle weigh empty? With a full 30rd mag?

not sure, but it is my heaviest 16inch i own, but also the most accurate.  the weight i believe is mostly in the heavy barrel, shoots great!

Doesn't get better than that! Have you decided between the carbine or midlength BCM upper yet? I prefer middies on 16" barrels but either choice is still

excellent. Let us know when you get it (most likely) and make sure to include pics!

imho, if you are wanting rails, get the bcm upper that is ss, 16" middy w/ the dd rails - already installed and g2g.  it is quite an expensive upper but i have asked bcm to make an upper that is the same but w/ the yhm lightweight rails and they said they were too busy.  imho, that would make for an ideal, moderately priced hella accurate upper.  if bcm made a 16" ss 1:7, 1:8 middy w/ the yhm lightweight rails one would be in my possession as soon as i could get my hands on one.  i can buy the parts to put one together and may do that but i think bcm needs to know that not everybody needs a dd/larue/samson/mi/insert high dollar rail here.  yhm works plenty good for 90%+ of the shooters here.

/end rant

Have one (actually 3) and they are great.  One carbine middy gas - the other two are carbines through and through (I think)

Bought 2, acquired one in a trade.  It has the DD Rail so I'd have to look close to see if it's a Carbine or Middy.

All ARs are sweet ... but when I was looking, I always came back to the Smith & Wesson AR15T ... The tactical package adds a lot of goodies and then you package that with the reliability of S&W all for approx. $1260 shipped from Bud's .....

You can always add to this platform ... but it's just a great all around "bang" for you buck as it sits ...

Hope you find exactly what you're looking for ... best of luck ...

Have a Colt Sp, bought around 1980 for $380.00.  Upgraded to a GSE A2M4  $1195.00.  Very well built, tight and accurate.   Mostly I am into long distance shooting 600yrds plus and my M4 just won't do the job.
