Since it's a new photo thread, I just stepped outside and took these pics.

Now that is an old school Mag pull, before their was a Magpul!  I like it.

we used to put a 550 cord loop and knot in the drain hole in the bottom of the mag, that was our mag pull.  and the price was right, free.

Believe it or not i have posted pics in here before-- back around part 7 or so.

I wouldn't say substandard.. Why all the zip ties?

Those zip ties hold the rail system tight they also totally secure items to the weapon eliminating any thoughts of your items coming loose.
A third added benifit to using zip ties is they eliminate wiggle in your rail covers and silence any possible noise due to that wiggle.  Basically I had dummy cording everything on the weapon pounded into me by the 1st Cav.  If your weapon is being used for more than just the range dummy cording the weapon is a smart thing to do.

The reason they are on my personal weapons is because I do a lot of hog hunting in some serious brush.  When I am chasing a kill or shooting on the move I dont want to loose a 400 doller OTAL.
Also try as I might I cant forget the lessons that the army taught me basically old habits die hard.

aren't the steel/aluminum mounts a little bit more likely to hold themselves onto your weapon that plastic zip ties?  I understand having a safety measure, but the secondary safety measure is much weaker than the initial mount...

I have had my OTAL come loose after a day of shooting.  I almost lost a Surefire while I was in the Army. redundant safety measures are always better than a single safety measure. Always remember the difference between a professional and an amature is that the amature will except risk as the norm where the professional will seek to eliminate it entirelly.

Your crazy if you think those zip ties are weak I have seen zip ties hold shit up or on that would amaze you.  Like a few zip ties holding up the tent section of a M577 in a hellish sand storm.

They are rated at like 110 pounds to 200 pounds are heat resistant and low profile.  Soldiers know about the usefulnes of zip ties.
