On an AR the taper pins are pretty obvious - the ones on my fsb on this AMD are a little ambiguous.  I need to get my plunger free. Holding the gun, would it be driving from the left side or the right?

If assembled like most, then from left to right.  But not all are assembled the same way.  If you have concerns, use calipers or micrometers to measure each side and see if there's a taper, drive out from the smaller diameter side.

ETA all of my AKs have been straight pins with pure interference fits - meaning they could be driven out from either side.

Who's to say really...I was taught that the combloc way was all pins were driven IN from the rifle's right side.
