What is the preferred method to make the holes and rivets the same size?

If you have calipers measure the rivet thickness and get drill bit slightly larger. I’m thinking it’s 4mm but it’s been a while

4mm and 4.5mm depending on the rivet. Generally the long rivets are 4.5mm.

I mean you're free to set it up in a mill, indicate the holes with a Haimer and precision bore them with a Wohlhaupter, but it's not going to make the build any more precise or easier to build.

Reamers make rounder holes than drill bits. If you want perfection drill undersize and ream. Keep in mind at the end of the day that hole is only used to host a smashed rivet.
