Is there any sort of universal optics mount that would mount on any variant of AK?

I am trying to assist a friend in Ukraine by helping source him some sort of optic for an AK.   Is there any sort of optic (red dot) or other that would mount to any AK out there.  He is in the territorial defense force so they are sharing weapons at present.   So he needs a personal optic he can pop on any AK that may be handed to him for a given period of time.  He does not have a rifle in hand at this time.

It would seem the only simple option is some sort of red dot mounted to a rail on the gas tube cover.

Any info or advice is appreciated.

Imo go with a side mount.

Thanks for sharing, that seems just like what I was looking for.  I am not as familiar with the various side mounts and if all AKs will accept them etc etc, but that Attero mount clearly would be a true universal mount option.

What type of optic?
