I just came across this project, seems like an odd niche; only use for this I could see would be attempting a stamped Valmet clone:

"A project I've been working on since end 2015 and it's finally ready for production. We were looking for a way to build the Galil in a more cost-effective manner and lighter weight. We took the Romanian AKM trunnion as the base design and modified it to fill the gap where the AK handguard would go and the ability to accept Galil components. Another quirk not shown in the picture is that the barrel pin is at the bottom of the trunnion - so you'll have to drill a hole through the receiver. It currently has to use a custom barrel, but we're looking into the ability to use existing turned down barrels. Irrespective we've made arrangements with a well-known manufacturer in Tennessee who'll make both the barrels and barrel pins.
It will otherwise use any standard AK 1mm sheet metal receiver.
I need to point out that these will not go into serial production, as the factory making them can only make them in batches of at least 200 at a time, and I'm not sure how many kits are out there either. So what questions might you have?
PS - You'll be able to place an order on the crowdfunding website Gun Dynamics. The link can be found here:

They're made from a 4140 billet from scratch. They'll be built by a factory in Taiwan who already manufacture other AK and AR15 components for me. The barrel and barrel pins will be manufactured by Campbell Arms in Tennessee.
PS - I forgot to add that we're only manufacturing the trunnions, not completed rifles. This is for the home builder who wants to build a custom Galil using AK components. The trunnions are going for $120, which if you add the other components will come out much cheaper than a milled receiver."
