I’ve had a number of challenges the past few years but I am trying to finish up some long put off projects. One such is a Milled Polish AK-47 build that was built on a firing line receiver. I called a shop that used to do Hot Bluing and they don’t do it anymore.
Instead all they do now is Cerakote. I will either have to ship to someone that does hot bluing OR just get a nice black cerokote finish? I was told it will cost $230 and they will cost all the metal parts so the AK will look nice when done! Poor gun has been built and sitting in my safe for almost 20-years. She shoots great but time to get it looking good too.

You messed up.
I once had a Bulgarian that looked like it had been built by Weatherby. It was the best looking AK I have ever seen. I wish I would have kept it.

The cerakote will be much less expensive and last much longer though a quality blue job is a thing of beauty. You could always cold blue it yourself and use steel wool to give it that look most everyone likes.

Have you tried Donnelly's or Parker arms and tool works?

Thanks, I am still trying to evaluate getting this one hot blued as it’s just a super nice build. I have a stainless parkerizing tank and I have done a few of my home builds in the past. This one and a KBZ wz.60 Grenade Launcher variant I just would prefer with that deep bluing.
Irritating I didn’t do it so long ago. |

Don't cericote that rifle!
Looks like an original barrel, original finish kit built on that fireing line receiver. I would NOT do anything to the parts with original finish! I would finish the receiver only to match the Original finish of the kit. Refinishing the original Polish parts will degrade collector value. I have a global trades imported wz gn60 original barrel/ finish kit built on a Bulgarian slr100 receiver. I need to cold blue the receiver to match the rest of the parts myself. I have used brownells oxpho-blue in liquid on other projects and like the results. I am thinking of trying the same in jell form on the reseiver. Thinking the jell might be less labor and more uniform in coverage over the liquid form. That's a great looking And increasingly hard to find Polish kbk. The value on these is only going to increase. |

Thanks, I found a gunsmith local that still does Hot Bluing and I trusted this gun to their care.
I have TWO Polish wz.60s I need done too and those I really want to make sure I get done right. I finally have found and ordered enough training grenades for both backpacks so I need to get these barrels installed and done too. I’ve got a lot of money into those AKs even at long ago purchase prices! |

Did you or your gunsmith rivet the lower butt stock tang into the receiver before doing the refinish/bluing? I ask because the lower tang appears to be missing from the rifle pictured in your original post.
ETA: Never mind, between the small screen on my iPhone and the bare steel of the receiver, it looked like there wasn’t a lower tang. I think the Firing Line milled receivers had an integral lower tang anyway. Oops, carry on... |

The proper solution is to sell it to me at a low price! Looks great, and I agree with using the same finish as the original...would love to see a picture of the finished product.
