It's been almost a year since PSA started this thread about the mags "coming soon". Is it getting to almost be "soon" yet?

PSA "soon" is like Magpul "soon" unfortunately.

To be fair, instead of a normal 2020, they did have the unexpected wrenches of the Rona Madness, the Unpleasant Summer, and the Biden Panic thrown at them.  They can't even meet demand for their existing products let alone the new ones.

If I were going to complain about a missed PSA product, it's definitely the KS-74.  I was really looking forward to that one.

Although the front locking lug sure looks polymer to me!

I wonder how durable the polymer lug is.

Edit: there's steel underneath the polymer.

I think the reason there are holes in the magazines is because the metal is laid under the plastic.

PSA specifically stated that both lugs are metal under polymer.

Yeah, Circle 10's have the same holes.

From PSA's website:

Steel Reinforcements Front and Back
Steel Feed Lips
Steel Locking Lugs

Appears the only thing these don't have compared to the Circle 10's is steel reinforcements on the bottoms near the floorplates. However PSA's magazines do have another reinforcement on the spine it seems which circle 10's do not.

I ordered some and will try to verify the above info with a magnet.

I got a bunch of their waffle mags. so far they fit nice n snug in 11 of my 14 AKs.. (only my WASRs and SAR-1 don't like them).

HOWEVER, PSA really needs to make a blue one..... for reasons :D

I ran a few different colored PSA Waffle mags this weekend through my Romanian (on a Morrissey receiver). Every single one was tight, but ran great. According to PSA, the next generation will be "cooler".... hopefully that means a smaller logo!

Anyway: these are well worth the $9.99 they were selling them at.

I'm no mold making expert, but I assume that the little holes are artifacts leftover from the molding process, so there were some little studs to ensure the metal was embedded to the correct depth within the mold, and to hold everything in the correct position.

Just an FYI, the Weapontech BHO followers, do not work in PSA's mags.  Don't know how many people use them, but there is too much plastic at the top of the mag and they don't stick all the way out.  Could probably be modded, but too much trouble.  Other than that, the mags are great.

Any idea on 5.56 mag ETA?

I like the sounds of your design and the price point compared to Circle 10's and would like to stock up.

Thanks

black gen 2's releases.

aesthetically I liked the look of the gen 1s better, but that's just aesthetics. Wondering if they changed anything internally

I'd guess Arsenal threatened lawsuit for too close of a copy?  I agree, gen 1 looked better.

I think the Gen 2 mags look pretty cool.  Like they draw a bit of the aesthetic of the RPK-74M ribbed mags?  (Or the Finnish Valmet RK-62 polymer mags maybe.)

I just bought a handful of their 103 mags otherwise I’d have already ordered a couple.  Hopefully they carry some of the design forward to 5.45 and 5.56 mags.

POOSSSSIBLY, but then they'd have to sue promag and Toth Tool too, which looks looks almost identical

Damn, they ruined them... the version one looked much better.  These look like a mash up of waffle and US Palm mags. No go for me. I’ll stick with their 103 smooth side mags.

The PSA 103 style mags look fine, I think the complaints of looking like "Tapco" mags are aimed at PSA's new waffle mag:

Depending how ambitious you are, PSA, look into cloning the Russian quadstack coffin 5.45 magazines... unless of course those original ones were proven unreliable, I don't remember... puffgun had something too a while ago but I been not paying attention lately...

I picked up a new waffle mag, and a 103 magazine, just to make the shipping worthwhile on a small part I needed.

The new waffle is just a 103 magazine with the ribs molded in, I doubt I'll buy another one.  Honestly, it and the 103 magazine wobble way more in my K-usa 103 than the Bulgarian reinforced mags I have already, and they were $10 less/mag.

Yep, I took a minute to dig out one my Valmet mags.  Pic is a PSA Gen 1 Waffle, PSA Gen 2 "Waffle", and finally the Valmet RK-62 M92 mag:

I don't see Tapco at all.  Given how valuable Valmet mags are, not doing a 100% clone is probably smart to avoid folks trying to scam with them.  At least Valmet won't send a cease and desist letter.

Those gen 1 mags were perfect! They should’ve just stayed with that mold and then offered the slabs too. There was no need to change them into Valmet looking mags… I mean, as mentioned above, I doubt it was copyright infringement due to the fact that Tapco, and Toth have been making them for years.  Too bad the Toth mags went up so much, they used to be an excellent alternative to $50 dollar circle 10 mags.
Now they almost the same price. (Toth)

It now seems like a much more reasonable price for what appears to be a high quality polymer mag, from my limited experience with them.

Having said all that above, if PSA can bring these to the market with a sale price of around $15, that will be a great deal for all of us. I'll have to see a few and wait for people who shoot a lot more than me (Rob Ski) to thoroughly test them to determine if they are "go to war" quality, but even if they end up being top quality range / training mags, that will help preserve the more limited, expensive mags like Circle 10s for "duty" / home defense use.

Minor note: it's interesting how PSA even replicated the small notches on either side of the front spine that the Circle 10 mags have, which I think it where the steel spine is anchored during the molding process. Toth mags don't have these notches, because they felt that their superior polymer made the front spine reinforcement unnecessary (which I don't see an issue with). I'm definitely looking forward to checking out these PSA mags.

Two years later and I totally forgot I posted that lol. Damn now Toth Tool has jacked up their price close to (10) MSRP, their old price is a great deal now! Amazing what a 2 year difference makes!
Fortunately I now have 22 (10) waffle mags, recently found a 30 and 40 rounder for less than $20 each at a pawn shop!

Still haven't purchased the PSA mags yet since have not been shooting my AKs as much, been shooting my newly acquired for cheap Norinco Paratrooper, Tula 1954 SKS and ARs much more lately. However with my new to me but older GP WASR 10-63, I am saving up my ammo for it. $25 each is fine with me now, especially that I've bought some steel surplus mags like Chinese and East German at that price. At least my local FFL always gives me around $15 each whenever they come in since I buy so many used mags from them lol.

I hope PSA keeps selling the Gen 1, the Arsenal waffle pattern looks the best. The Gen 2 Valmet/Molot pattern is not as cool but still way better than Tapco's hideous pattern.

Yeah I'm sure they work great but I just dont like the look of the gen 2 mags. If they kept the gen 1 mags at the original price I'd have bought a lot more. I do keep picking up 103 mags on occasion and am looking forward to the 5.56 magazines. Their 103 mags are excellent.

They said they were going to make 556 mags with the same reinforcements that the 103 mags currently have. Going to be a late this year release.

Has anyone heard an update when the 5.56 version will be available? I’ve got a few 5.56 ak’s and would like to stack these deep if they are like the 7.62x49 version.

PSA needs to release some pre-production pics of the magazine too!
