I need help from the AK gun master race.
Coming from the AR world I know pretty much nothing about AK's. Looking to buy an AK47 with a max budget of $850. ETA - Would like the ability to add optics. Edit, there are no "trashcan guns" here in this AK forum. That's a term used by the heritics in GD. Please leave it there. dryflash3 |

I doubt that he'll be able to touch anything by Rifle Dynamics for $850. OP, get a WASR-10 and you'll have an AKM made in a military factory and have money left over. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

Buy a Wasr, steel surplus mags, and some steel case from sgammo.com
|
|
WASR, NPAP, or add a few more bucks to the pot and pick up an Arsenal, which is what I'd recommend.

Arsenal AKs are considered “best” and the SLR -107R is $850. WASR is also great rifle but overpriced right now @ $700. They used to sell for like $500 2 years ago and $300 before Obama.
Buy Golden Tiger ammo from SGammo.com. It’s the most accurate ammo and hard to come by. Sam is selling it at or below cost right now to make room. PSA Gen 2 AK47 has very good reviews and is actually built by DDI. It’s a steal at $499 but it’s not a “genuine combloc” rifle like the WASR or SLR-107R ETA: Buy cheap, stack deep. |

Thanks everyone for the help! I ended up picking up a new WASR for $663.
Will be turning it into a Russian "Alpha AK" Appreciate the ammo recommendations also and I'm buying some now! Besides range ammo, what is everyone running for "defensive" ammo? |

Defensive ammo discussion... https://www.ar15.com/forums/AK-47/7-62x39-Home-defense-ammo/54-163251/
Kind of depends on your budget, but these seem to be most popular...8M3 "Effect", Federal Fusion, Winchester PDX-1 Defender, Hornady SST. |

I'm impressed with this WASR. Sights weren't canted, receiver was good and rail mount was also level. All serial numbers matched too. Don't mind the background, literally just picked it up yesterday and made it down to my time share in the Outer Banks today. So yeah, those are not my tacky ass bed sheets lmao. This AK will be getting a full makeover. View Quote |

P.S. If you want extra special AK POWA, buy a Bulgy 5.45 in the near future. You will love it :) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CaBDk6uUAAAdSuL.jpg View Quote This is just the beginning to my commie collection |

Grab a Draco while they're still reasonably priced.
I wish I got some when they were under 400. |

That's something that would be cheaper to build at this point (if you already have the tools) than buy, which is surprising. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Source for Bulgy AK74? I have neither the tools nor the inclination to be completely honest. |

Does anyone know where I can find the right size cleaning rod for my WASR?
Also a good place for good cheap mags? Feel free to PM me |

Guess I'll post a little update on my way to cloning an a "Alpha AK" TWS dog leg gen 3 installed today. Magpul grip holding it down for now, feels wayyyy better than the standard grip. https://preview.ibb.co/iMn8Eo/5_CE93_CF0_1982_4_C87_A48_F_13393_F46_A409.jpg View Quote |

Ok, I gotta ask... If your intention from the beginning was to slap $500+ in rails on the rifle, why limit yourself to a WASR? Don’t get me wrong the WASR is a solid and often underrated rifle, but if you’re shooting for an Alpha clone and swapping out internals, you’re probably looking at another $1000 in add ons when all is said and done, and cost doesn’t seem a big consideration for you except on the rifle itself. Seems you’d have been better off staring off with an Arsenal or saving for a Rifle Dynamics or Krebs rifle and building up from there. You’re going cheap on the rifle and all out on the accessories and in the end if you have accuracy issues or any other problems you’re going to wish you’d spent more on the rifle and less on the rails.

Making a little progress. Installing a ALG trigger later today... Still got a ways to go... Optic, grip, vfg, muzzle device, barrel chop, fs/gb combo and paint or cerakote. https://preview.ibb.co/jBhtPJ/DD7338_F5_8931_48_BC_BE0_B_111_C52_B49066.jpg Can anyone help identify this vfg? https://preview.ibb.co/kpHN3d/100_CD68_D_DFAC_4956_8291_29_F74459003_A.jpg View Quote |

Also here.. https://www.ar15.com/forums/ak-47/AK_abuse__home_built_version_update_on_Page_6_/64-159106/?page=1 They have yet to shoot out the barrel on it. I'm perfectly fine with it I'll leave the accuracy to my AR'S and precision rifles. ETA also... This stuff can be taken off and switched if I ever had a problem. Gotta love the hate on the mighty WASR. But muhh dimpless Went with it for its solid track record. I don't plan on shooting close to 80,000-100,000 rounds |

To be fair, that rifle is different from yours in almost every way. Not a dig at all, just saying that you don’t need to get hung up on one part IMO. View Quote I have the same rail, top cover, tromix ch and krebs safety. They are using magpul stocks now too. ETA This won't be a 100% clone of what they are using. Its more inspired, but I want to get it as close as I can |
