What red dot are you putting on it? Micro sized (Aimpoint T2, Holosun 503, Sig Romeo 5, etc) work great on both a side mount and Ultimak, anything larger you are going to want to stick with a side mount.
I like both mounting methods, but I do tend to lean towards the Ultimak on the rifles I use micro red dots on. |

When I had my SLR-106 I had the Attero Arms Bravo mount. Awesome mount and I highly recommend it. Rock solid and still allowed you to con-witness the irons and fold the stock.

Fixed irons, that are actually easier to use than the stock irons, in my opinion. |

I highly encourage a RS Regulate mount as the AK-104 has a side rail. Ultimak or Attero Arms are more for those who have AKs that lack a side rail. I prefer to always have QD ability with my optics. With an Attero Arms mount, you will not have any QD ability.
