[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Local pawn shop has a detachable mag SKS

and it's been there for awhile, so I'm going to try and get a black FRIDAY DEAL. as it has been bubba'ed with folding stock. Besides the SKS-D Chinese model, are there any other models I need to know about? Any other things I need to look for? Any reliability issues? I have 2 Chinese fixed mag models (rifle and Chinese carbine), but know jack crap about the detachable mag versions.

There were some DIY modifications to make a regular (non-D) SKS take detachable mags. Most didn't seem to have very good reputations, iirc.

The right answer is convert it back to the internal mag when you get it

This. Only way from what I have seen it will be reliable. Soo if you're going to buy it for the detachable mag feature, personally, I'd skip it.

Is it an M, D or a homemade variation? How much are they asking?

Are the ‘removable’ mags AK mags or the duck bill mags, like Tapcos?
If they’re duck bill mags, it’s a plain ol’ SKS without a fixed mag and an aftermarket stock.
Other than the M version for AK mags there’s no other variant that uses removable mags.

Unless it has an aftermarket adaptor, they’re not cheap so if it’s a good one like the SKSadaptor (made in Texas) that takes AR 7.62x39 mags, that has some value.
