Did anyone else catch these while they were in stock last week?
I ordered a couple and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the current batch of them? (not the 2019 batch, if that makes any difference) *LINK* JRA Gallant Galil clone |

Out of stock, how much were they? No experience with these, just my one home build.

They did offer "battle worn" models with a shooter package (bayonet, sling, and a couple smaller goodies). |

I have a JRA M14 and 2 JRA RPK's (1 full size, 1 16" barrel). All are well built and have been flawless. I assume the Gallant would be on par with their other offerings.

Should have then both picked up on Saturday, will post some pics and impressions over the weekend for anyone else wondering |

The gallant had some issues with shit being out of spec, I wanna say stuff like trigger pin holes and the like (IIRC). There are a few threads about it over on the akfiles.
Hopefully this latest run has the issues sorted out. |
|
|
I did see some stuff on the 2019 rifle batch that said they were a bit inconsistent, I'm also hoping this batch will be better.
Personally I collect stuff like this more than I actually shoot it, my 5.45 Ace SBR has never been shot but she decorates my safe beautifully. I may run a mag or two just to check for function but other than that it'll be a safe queen |

My AKM on an Izzy 68 kit... the Russian parts are flawless, JRA's attention to detail on a $1500 gun not so much. I'm debating cutting my losses and having a reputable builder salvage the rifle. Which sucks when you spend $1500. |

Just ordered on yesterday from Classic
They are sold out of most model. I bought the one with black poly handguards, and the bipod. No bayo lug. Anyone have a good source for wood handguards? |

Just picked mine up today. It is sweet
$899 Will change out the pistol grip shortly. Mine did not have the old night sights. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

How you guys like these?
Been thinking about a sam5 or ak in 556 but these are cheaper and always wanted a galil. Headspace Been OK? |

@BWood
How about a 1 year update. Does it shoot - feed, fire, & eject? Any re-occurring stoppages? Would you recommend it? |

Mine eats everything. Accurate. Reliable. Worth every penny.

Just got mine. While sexy as fuck doesn’t shoot worth a damn. Double feeds and stove pipes all day long.
Tried a variety of ammo and didn’t get through a whole mag once. Started out every few rounds. Then had 1-2 per mag. Then back to every couple rounds. Anyone got any ideas before I contact them? |
|
|
Just got mine in. Haven't tried shooting it yet.
The stock does not want to fold. Edited to add, I was having troubles getting the top cover back on after disassembling it. Pulling the buffer off the recoil spring made it a little easier. You might try removing that buffer, it just slides off the front of the spring. Edit #2 I have an odd purple tint to the mag release thingy and gas tube. I can live with it but it's a little janky looking. |
|
|
Yeah I was going to try that. Also gonna try the polymer mag they sent it with. I only
Had surplus mags. But seems more like an extractor/ejector problem than a mag problem. Extractor spring seems easier to depress than my ak so may be that. Going to try the pmc 5.56 they say they test fired it with. Hopefully get it figured out if not I’ll be contacting them. A lot of money for a gun that doesn’t work. |

JRA Gallant - What an Absolute Piece of Shit!!! Nothing but stove pipes with both Tapco Mags and Surplus mags. Using 55gr PMC 223 and 62gr Federal 5.56 green tip. Hey that looks exactly like mine.

Mine has been perfect. Feeds anything from either Surplus Galil or the tapco mag that came with it. From what I heard JRA has great customer service

So I got my hands on a galil arm recoil spring and noticed it was a bit shorter than the jra one. Put it in. Gun runs like a top now. Attached File

Nice. I'm gonna try that. Here's the response I got from JRA. Note how the say they tested folding each stock... Right just like they test fired each rifle?

I'm certain whatever is causing the stovepipes can be fixed. It could be as simple as more break-in or some simple parts fitment replacement.
These are parts kits build and sometimes this is going to happen. (sucks when it happens!) Sort of seems like it isn't ejecting the spent case (not going back far enough, fast enough to hit the ejector and throw the empty out and jamming on the next feeding cartridge.) The 223/5.56 excuse not sure if I believe that - however You need good milspec ammo to get best performance, and maybe your ammo was a little under powered. Hope you don't give up on Galil platform - they can get it fixed and you will enjoy it, but its an unfortunate hassle. |

I was having difficulty getting the Top Cover back on after 1st disassembling it. The recoil spring seems too heavy. I'd be tempted to cut a couple coils off of it. I have a recoil spring assembly coming from Apex and will see if that changes anything and still may cut a coil off one of the recoil springs. I'd rather fix it myself than send it back. Seeing the awful color match of that gas tube has got me thinking that I will get a railed Galil Gas Tube. https://www.galilhub.com/product/sar-welded-pic-rail-complete |

Especially after they claim to test fire them and mine struggled to get more than 2-3rds off without jamming out of the box. Hopefully the recoil spring is your fix as well. I also noticed my top cover was pretty hard to get on with the original. |

They are a manufacturer
A small mfgr. Makes perfect sense to deal with a distributor They will make it right. |

My Apex recoil spring assy came in and...
Still stove piping. Tried cutting a few coils from the replacement spring... Still stove piping. Installed the Original Spring with buffer... Still stove piping. My record round count w/o a stove pipe is - 8rds. It's going back. |

Ouch. Makes me want to go put some more rounds thru mine to make sure.

It might have some crud in there slowing the action down. A good cleaner/solvent pipe cleaner or drill but to clean out any carbon from the old block etc in there. If it was mine i'd open the port a hair if that didn't work - galil gas ports are drilled at an angle so a drill bit should be able to fit in there to open it up or clean it up - but too much possibilities to narrow that down as a next step. It's going back. View Quote |

Hate to say it but this thread is why those wading into the Galil platform need to save up and buy the parts needed to get them built by a high quality builder like Jeff Miller. Maybe Jeff will start selling complete rifles. If so, unless his pricing is out of this world,I would save up for headache free Galil.

there are two types of galils...Real ones (factory) and fake ones (cloned parts kit builds)...should have two separate categories with an honest discussion of all flaws with every clone no matter who built it....and if you are saving up your money, buy a real one...

View Quote I Agree, But they are how much for a pre-ban Gaill? Most won't even look based on I also need to buy gas, food, and save for tomorrow's inflation. But like AKs, (Which the overwhelming majority are clones on the US Market) and a great many can indeed run fine. Many of us would not have AKs if it weren't for kits and clones. A kit build can be well done, and sometimes not - Many of them can be fixed given a chance - Not all (Some Ohio Rapid fire receivers and Century jobs were close to FUBAR.) I think the recent builds are not perfect, but better than the Century clones of the past - But it depends on what is wrong. Some things are simple and some things are not. For some reason, the US isn't great at making an AK - Afghan in a cave can do it, but not US manufacturer - its sort of funny. My PSA 104 is my first PSA AK and it runs great so we are getting better in the US at making new clones. Parts builds - well more people are getting more experienced to pass on info and experiences for fixes and repairs. I hope the OP gets his gun fixed. |

View Quote The Clone parts kits are actual mil spec parts (although condition can vary) Kit builds can be nice as long as the receivers are good, and the attention to completion is good - I have a Tortort that went together nicely, and I had a good IMI barrel. It seems like with the Galeo (or some posted here) - The receiver is out of spec and the lugs are not mating properly on one side versus the other. So This really throws off the quality of the build before its started. Kit build Makers in the US are out to make a hit and run with fast product market entry and live with the mistakes. I was looking at saving myself some time versus sourcing receiver and parts an build as a Galeo is as cheap or cheaper than the parts! I agree PSA is starting to make some nice ones. My PSA 104 is also very nice. |

OK RANGE REPORT JRA rifle: 25M indoor is all I can come up with close to home...just a functional test. 4 Mags IDF Exc cond and Tapco mag filled with 20 , to 34 rounds on IDF GI. mags, Weapon cycled without ANY Issues, due to large noise i was jerking the trigger but kept all rounds in center mass man target. Cleaned the weapon and inspected bolt lugs and receiver mill out lugs, Minor park rubbed away as ware in needed. Per Jeff Miller Video bought 600 Grit oil base lapping compound and applied to bolt lugs and receiver bolt mill out lugs and Hammer ( which the bolt rides against) and cycled the action 100 or so times by hand which fits the lugs and smoothes the hammer and bolt belly to a mirror finish. Cleaned the weapon and oiled. Im not seeing any signs of bolt or receiver issues. I will say there are MANY parts rubbing against one another, polish and oil to get a butter smooth action.
