Mid 2000's WASR GP 10/63 that has never given me a problem in several thousand rounds. I never paid much attention to this rifle but had it apart and noticed this serrated, almost sharp portion of the right-side rail near the front (chamber) end of the rail. The bolt carrier slides OK and gun keeps shooting.

I suspect the rail has always been like this and this may not even be the product of wear but it just seems odd. Is this normal?

Yeah it's fine that's just Romanians being Romanians. The tooling they used to make that rifle probably went dull while there were two Germanies and Reagan was yelling at Mikhail Gorbachev.

As Antixx said, it's normal at least on a Romanian rifle. My SAR-1 is similar.
