AKM/AK-47 magazine compatibility. (Note that the Galil ACE rifle is assembled in the US from imported and US parts under 18 U.S.C  § 922(r). You should only use magazines made in the USA in your Galil ACE rifle. Use of an imported magazine may put you in violation of 18 U.S.C § 922(r).)

Are the pistol versions of the Galil exempt from this?

Not a lawyer and this is not legal advice you should ask someone more qualified than people on a message board before you do something you are not sure is legal.

All that aside yes...I think the answer to your question is yes they are exempt because pistols don't fall under 922r.
