As title says....do you use your plum and/or bakelite mags?  Or are they for looks?  If you do use them, is that all you use, or only sporadically?

I've used my bakelite mag to make sure it works, but otherwise it's pretty much just for pics. It's also my most wobbly mag. I'll mostly use steel mags or magpuls.

I use mine,  got a bunch of them for the AKM when they were very affordable 25 bucks(?) a pop  and E. German AK74  when they were dirt cheap, 5 bucks a pop and some soviet "plum mags, also cheap

I have used them and like them very much. Currently the only one I have is for looks with my safe-queen Soviet AKMS clone but I would have no reservations using it if needed.

I honestly don't take my AKs out very often, but if they were my primary rifles and money were no object I would be inclined to run all bakelites.

I have some I bought used.  Those get loaded up and shot.  I have some bakelites from that shipment last year that are still brand new in the wrapper.  I also have pmags that are in the wrapper.

So it's not that I'm not shooting them cause they're bakelites.  I just haven't needed to open them up yet.

My range mags are my 30 and 40rd Bakelites.

I have some 762x39 Chinese Bakelites, not worth using them for the range,  not being imported since 1994

Seldom. I bought them mainly to add to the collection and get all the variants more than for use. (I think I have something like 20-30 of them)
I have waaaaaay too many steel mags for use and abuse.
I've taken my Molot 40 round bakelites out for photo ops with my '68 Molot RPK, and I think I did a 30 round dump on the day Mikhail passed in a long top Izhmash in my SGL26... other than that, nope.

I have used a few of mine in the past. They are nothing special over the metal surplus mags.

I was moseying around KVAR and looked on gun broker........a plum 40 rd mag bid at 450.99. Do i have to feed and house the 25 yo hot blonder loader that must come with that ?

I never had any plumbs but I got a 6 or 7 bakelite mags long ago in the Sportsman's Guide mix bag of mags you could order.  I sold them all for a decent profit and bought more cheap surplus ones.  Kind of wish I had kept one, but I never shoot my AK so steel ones are fine.

I shoot them.  My chinese underfolder does not like the really beat up vet bring back I got from Dennis Todd at a PA gun show a long time ago (the rear is really chewed up from obviously being shot F/A a lot so it might be just for looks now - I need to get around to testing it in other guns), but the new old stock ones I have work fine in my euro spec AKMs and AK74s.

I use any mag in the mag box.

This is an interesting thread. I tend to use my magazines except for a few really rare ones. Plum 74 mags and bakelite mags (in 47 or 74 variety) are not rare, and should be used.

I used to use my 10 Izhmash bakes when I could still buy them at a local shop for a cheap price. Since they've been gone I keep them locked away, use them for only photos since I know they work. I should have gotten 10 Tulas when they were available too...

I got a beautiful Norinco bake in a trade but that one hasn't been shot at all since its even more rare.

Ok,  I have to ask you this question.......why not? you aren't going to "hurt" them by loading and using them, anymore then metal AK mags, so what are you of afraid?

Not afraid to use them as I used the Izhmash bakes plenty of times before, just didn't speed reload them. I know they are tough, in my experience even more durable than modern Magpul AK PMAGs.

I have plenty of Tapcos, X-Tech and AC Unity mags which are cheap and I got no problem throwing around. I also got a good collection of (10) waffles, many I got for way cheap. My main thing is keep all my rare and valuable mags in storage, everything else keep them in rotation.

I use some of mine.  Some of them are still brand new covered in oil inside the wrappers.

I use most of mine, I have a few that I don't use in my "collection", though.
