 I thought it was Polish 7.62X54r from the crate but the markings are not correct.

It's a Polish 7.62x39 ammo box. Looks just like this out of stock one on Sportman's Guide https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/polish-military-surplus-wooden-ammo-box-used?a=2151652

I remember some empty 5.56mm Polish ammo crates a while back. I missed the boat on those. Would have been cool to have.

While I was looking around about the box I saw some online stores with them in stock. Not 7.62x39 ones exclusively, but definitely other calibers the Polish would have used. The ones with them in stock seem to be mostly in Europe though.
