My cousin made those cabinets(he works for a museum display fabrication shop)
He used my M70 as a toolroom model for the cabinet makers to make sure everything would fit ok. The CIA gave everyone in the shop t shirts that read" CIA museum...The coolest museum you'll never see" |

Bin Laden's AK was very famously an AKSU "Krinkov", supposedly taken from a dead Russian general and presented to Bin Laden during the Soviet war in Afghanistan. He was enormously proud of the carbine and it was always leaning behind him in photos and videos.
That AKSU was reportedly the one taken from his room by members of SEAL Six and a number of people who know say it's now hanging on the wall at SEAL Six headquarters. The CIA "Bin Laden" AK is suspected to be the AK Bin Laden's son was holding when Six shot him on the stairs leading up to Osama's top floor. So, it's "A" Bin Laden's AK, but most people who know say it's not Osama Bin Laden's AK. I've heard that the CIA wanted the AKSU and SEAL Six basically told them to FO, they captured it, they were keeping it. |

Chinese "56" after the triangle? Interesting! If anything closer to a 56-1 but it's still off. Definitely a Kyber Gun |

Has a Chinese character but is of a Russian orgin. How about it's a Chinese copy of the Russian AK.

I'm guessing this gun is a typical Khyber-style mish-mash of parts. It looks like at least the receiver came from Norinco, but the front sight is off a typical Russian-style AK and the pistol grip from a Type 56 or old AK-47. I don't think the gun ever came off a factory line assembled like that.

That looks like Russian manufacturer, Izhmash plant to me. Not Chinese as the pic caption implies.

I hope they cut the barrel before importing per BATFE rules.

that for sure looks like a Pakistan Khyber pass gun. He was in Pakistan and I am sure those guns are really easy to find. More likely than not the right gun was the AKSU he was often seen with and I am sure the seals did not give it up .

Never seen a Type 56 with the type front rivets parallel like that, though. The rear one is usually lower.

I've always heard that AKSUs were highly prized by al queda types because that's what was issued to HIND pilots...and those pilots killed a shit load of muj guys, so getting one of their little AKs was a serious war trophy. Don't think Soviet Generals even carried long guns...did they?

I pissed off a guy giving some newbies a tour of the museum by correcting him on the type of rifle it was. He was trying to sound all smart and shit and I couldn't resist the opportunity to jump in with an "ACKCHYUALLY..."
I get that the CIA is a culture of lying but FFS if you don't know just don't say anything....cause there's ALWAYS someone in the room who knows more than you. |
