Or anything similar?

Took my Galil out just now and destroyed another 140 pieces of brass

I reload, so I am looking for one of these AK port buffer things to prevent putting a huge dent in the cases upon ejection

Supposedly you can modify the Valmet buffer to fit a Galil but I can’t find one anywhere

Anyone have a source for one of these?

Someone asked this last week.  These have not been imported in decades.  Secondary market these days.  I would join a few different AK forums that have valmet traffic.  I picked one up from the EE a few weeks ago while I was looking for something else.

It's an AK, shoot steel case.

It’s a 5.56 Galil, and it hates steel case

I reload, and want to shoot brass out of this gun without destroying the cases

The only solution I have found is one of these AK buffers

RTG used to get them in a long time ago. I would subscribe to their newsletter and watch while scouring the secondary market. I've been surprised at what they find years after they originally sold out.

Look into the KNS adjustable piston and you may not even need it.

5.56 cases also tend to hit the charging handle on ejection

Adjusting the gas down may also resolve your issues with steel case depending on what they are - e.g. ripping the case rim off.

This is what happens when I shoot steel case out of this gun:

I found a good slow motion video of a Galil being fired full auto, you can see the cases hitting the back of the ejection port, exactly where one of these port buffers would go

I just need to find one in stock, or make something if I could get my hands on one to look at

Also I just checked and it doesn’t look like KNS offers a piston for the ARM

That sucks - looks like poly cased Tula Ammo. I have 1800rds of that crap and it doesn't work in any of my AR15's.

Quoting a post here from 2018:

"I own a Valmet ejection port buffer and it works, however the rubber it's made from has become hard and dried out (35 years old). I understand some people are buying strips of auto door trim and applying it the the edge of the dust cover. This is a cheap option and it can't hurt. Simply trim to length and replace as needed. One door strip will last your lifetime."

"a spring steel frame clip for brake lines or wiring or some other auto trim fastner would be a start look in the bins at a autobody supply store.

I can buy a spare cover for around $10 and just cut and weld on it to hold a rubber block its what Im doing on my next varmint build

in the picture the rubber tubing was glued on about 1800 rounds ago and you can see the wear at the back of the port and that it is starting to split. it completly eleminated the denting on my 223 brass. It was a quick fix/ experiment the day I left for sout dakota 2 years ago on a hunt I never even got the 3M weatherstriping glue completly removed you can see were the cover is pryed out slightly as well as I cut the edge bacg about a 1/16 and made the bend in the port less of a tight bend to aid in letting the tubing bend easier so it didnt open up in the bend."

I'd be tempted to just trim the top cover.

My gun hates that stuff

Thanks for the links, good info

Doh!

The KNS piston is a rather expensive fix, but I’m going to consider it

OK.  I admit that I only shoot the steal cased crap out of ChiCom or Comblock AKs -  everything else gets brass, including the Valmets and the Galil.
