I've been poking around the AK forums consistently now for about 18 months. I've read about a lot of AKs but I've never heard of Meridian Defense. After having a WASR and a Romanian underfolder kit gun I wanted an import. I couldn't decide between the M70 or the WBP Jack. At the end of the day I spent the extra $150 and got the Jack with red furniture from Atlantic. Totally happy. Gorgeous rifle. I'll have an M70 before the year is over. It's a great rifle too for the money, so I read

No idea why anyone would be holding out for a Meridian Defense kit build with their gaudy roll mark and fake distressed finish
WASR WBP M70 Pretty much your three currently available imported options coming with a wood stock I'd throw in a vote for PSA but their wood stocks look nothing like classic AKM stocks. PSA has excellent AK’s
Many different variants, clones as well. Some have FN bbl’s and Nibor BCG’s Excellent shooters |

I think the WBP or Zastava are the clear choices. I've seen at least three Arsenals that were canted badly from the factory and their finish sucks. The Zastavas are tanks, in a good way.

Both are good. My M-70 is a soft shooter with good accuracy. WBP is the classic AK and has great reviews by those who own them. They have better finish and some say very good accuracy. If I got another AK it would be the WBP jack or upcoming M-70 underfolder. Can't go wrong with either one. |

At $1900 the Meridian Defense classic doesn't even come with a CHF barrel

Ill deviate from the consensus and say a MAK-90.
At this point you are looking at paying 800-100 for a WASR, Zastava or WBP. might as well save up a little more for a MAK-90. You already have experiences with AKs so might as well get something interesting. |
