I would love to have this rifle. Curious about the magazines compared to other variants.

That is one seriously sexy rifle.  I'd LOVE to have one.

I love how the East and the West continue with parallel but fascinatingly different small arms evolutions.

After I'm done with my AK-12 and AK-15 I'm considering doing an AK-19. Mags are becoming easier to find in the US (although still expensive). I'm also starting to see more of those AK-EVO stocks in the US (also expensive and snagged up really quick).

There's a couple folks over on the Files that have completed an AK-1x build, they are pretty damn cool for sure.

Stock reminds me of the Zhukov tbh. If Magpul made a left handed folder I can make my AK more AK-19ish

What's up with all the comments on the video that read like they're bots or know nothing about AKs? Why would these people even be watching the video?

I really need one of those.

I kinda found the whole video to be cringe worthy.

Cool rifle none the less.

Wouldn't work unless Tortort incorporated the hooks for the receiver cover:

Magpul got their idea for the Zhukov from the AK-200 prototype stock.

What is so hard about offering 5.56 AKs that take NATO 5.56 magazines?

My main problem with getting a 5.56 AK continues to be the fact that I have a huge pile of AR mags and buying a huge pile of 5.56 AK mags feels wasteful and annoying to keep track of.

Doesn't make much sense for a country that doesn't use AR's and isn't NATO to use a STANAG pattern mag just because they are using 5.56x45. Logistically, and imo, makes way more sense to continue using the same pattern of magazine you have been using for decades.
Granted, I am biased because I like rock and lock better, but I still think coming from a country like Russia it just wouldn't make sense to use the STANAG standard.

Homestly I would probably split the top cover down the middle so I could remove one half then permanently attach the portion with the rail.

The rear site and right side of the cover would come off

I've been planning something like this for a bit then you made you ak12 thread and now it's gonna cost more

They lost me at (anemic) “5 point 56 / 223” caliber. Go 7.62x39 or 6.5 Grendel or go home.

I’d like this one, the AKV-521, kind of a Robarms XCR knock off in the above calibers, and apparently they’ll have interchangeable uppers in various calibers:

I guess it’s a moot point, though, since Obonzo banned everything from Russia.

7.62x39 is AK-15. As far as I know there is no military adoption of 6.5 grendel in Russia, so I wouldn't count on an AK-1x chambered in it.

The closest we're probably going to get in that regard is the Zastava M19.

Well, we’re not getting anything at all from Russia for the foreseeable future, except maybe a few 6.5 Grendel Veprs still floating around here in the US.Would be nice to get Zastava DMRs in 6.5 G - assuming Xoe and the Hoe don’t shut down imports.

The alternative seems to be a Lee Armory US made AK in 6.5 G with excellent US-made Csspecs mags:

Anyone have close ups of the rear latch mechanism?

The AK12 stock I have has a spring and a lever that the standard 5.5mm pin goes through to keep it all together, but I don't see how you can fold the stock with that all assembled

@TheTacticalCoyote where did you find the stock for sale?

There's been couple popping up on Gunbroker every now and then, but you have to be quick (plus you'll pay a premium for them). They're nice and definitely look cooler, but I really like the ability to store the cleaning kit in the butt of the M4 pattern stock.
