GUNSMITH SPECIAL — MOSSBERG 500 ATP 12GA SHOTGUN WITH 20" BARREL

These are incomplete shotguns. Most are missing minor parts (i.e. safety assemblies, magazine tube parts, and/or bolt parts). Furniture shows a lot of character, some may be cracked, some rubber butt pads are missing.

Used by military, police, prisons, and in seemingly every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, hen house, outhouse and doghouse around the world!

Introduced in 1961, the Mossberg 500 series of pump-action shotguns are manufactured by O.F. Mossberg & Sons.1 Intended for use in harsh and dirty conditions and marketed as a multi-purpose firearm, Mossberg claims the Model 500 is the only shotgun to pass the U.S. Army's Mil-Spec 3443E test, "a brutal and unforgiving torture test with 3,000 rounds of full power 12 gauge buckshot".2

The 500ATP was Mossberg's original military and police shotgun; referred to by most in the 1970's as a 'Riot Gun'. It was the military/police shotgun before the 590 and the 590a1 came about. In its early days, it wasn't very popular due to its flat finish — at the time, quality was judged by the shine — but today, they are sought after.3

ATP means — A = 12 gauge (B=20GA, etc.)  and TP = (originally 'Trench') Tactical/Police is now the general understanding.
