The NIJ PE Ballistic Plate offers impressive protection despite weighing just 3.3 lbs, thanks to the innovative construction. Instead of heavy steel plates this armor features a layer of shock-dispersing foam as a core between two Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), allowing for excellent ballistic protection. As an added bonus, this configuration does not cause dangerous spalling events the way that common steel plate armor can. To further improve wearer comfort, the plate features both an ergonomic curve and shooters cuts.
