I bet this has been posted before the last few months, but it sure seems like there has been a large spike in refugees from other states moving here, especially in the last 6 months.  I can tell just from the traffic volume.
What is the population now of DFW ( as a whole) and Houston?

Some states push people out with taxes, less economic freedom, big gov.  Some states pull people in with no/low taxes, good jobs, less intrusive big gov.  Those push/pull factors are on display not just in Houston, but all over the State of Texas.

I live in Pearland south of Houston in the burbs and our city has been growing like mad on the west end of town.  Subdivisions and apartment complexes going up all over the place.

We're still looking to escape Kolorado here.  May make the move by year's end.  If nothing else, try to keep the state from going blue.

Property value here are growing like crazy too. I bought my house 3 years ago for $180K. Comps are going to $250-270K now. When I leave here in about a year I am hoping it will be even more.

I miss the the old days when I could drive down the freeway at 3am and Houston was a ghost town.  Now, the traffic runs 24/7.  It really is a LOT more congested, now.

Supposedly DFW is the largest metropolitan population in the southern US and still growing.  It seems like business is slowing a bit but people keep on coming.

Not doubting you, but do you have a link.  I could use that info in something I'm working on.

My fiance and I just moved to Houston 2 months ago....trust me, I would go back to my small town in Louisiana in a heartbeat! No offense to Texas...I've always said it would be the only place I would live other than Louisiana. But Houston is just too damn big, crime is effing ridiculous...and it's just not my style.

Katy / Cinco Ranch area was as far west as we could go since she works in the Energy Corridor

<------Realtor...bring it!

Seriously though - these are crazy times. Life is good now, I am curious how the area will handle the next speedbump.

That's a concern of mine as well, when things slow down it could get ugly.  Not to mention a lot of these people are west coasters.

What are y'all talking about, the 'speed-bump' and 'slow down' is already happening! Never thought I would be complaining about O&G prices being too low! My company has taken a major hit the past 2 months. No layoffs, but it's going to be tough till next summer unfortunately.

this. Too many people leaving their home state for "problems" and then wanting to make Texas just like "the best place they came from"

The entire state is in a period of major growth, but the three main metro areas are growing faster for sure.

It sure is getting crowded in DFW. Last year I worked at downtown and my commute from Frisco was about 2-2.5 hours a day. Now I work from home for a tech company on the west coast and my commute is a 30 sec walk from the bedroom to the office.

I am kind of glad I will be moving to the middle of nowhere Parker county in about a year. DFW and it's roads are only getting more crowded. Although 10 years from now the gap between ft worth and Weatherford might disappear too.

I moved here (DFW) in 2001. There was a big surge of hurricane refugees in 2006, and in the past year I noticed that the traffic was more dense and prolonged.

I go to work at 5am, on my way home at 2pm it used to be pretty smooth; these days it is like a high speed chariot race. (DFW airport to Haltom City)

So much so I'm debating selling the motorcycle.

I moved here July of 2007...by October I sold all my bikes.  Had too many people try to kill me in the areas I rode (Plano/Addison/Dallas).
