I found a bullet today that is silver and rather large. It has no rifling on it. It does have what appear to be machining striations like it was turned on a lather or something. It dulled my pocket knife when I tried to cut into it. I am guessing it is a 50 BMG armor piercing. I found info online that says there is a .50 AP Sabot round. That would explain the bullet having no rifling. The bullet was in great shape and the tip was only dented a little bit. Can any one shed more light on this mystery bullet or perhaps give me a better suggestion on what I found? Thanks

Got clear pics of it next to a ruler, both for length and diameter?

How do i do that? The bullet itself is about the same lenght as a 5.56 case.  Would there be any other bullet that would even compare to that?

What are the odds that someone Is shooting slap ammo at a range? You can't shoot it from anything with a muzzle brake, which rules out most privately owned .50 BMGs.

A .50 cal bullet that shed it's jacket?

Most .50 cal ball bullets have a mild steel core inside them.

I just put a magnet to it and it sticks.

Yep! The silver part. So 50 mild steel then?

Yup, somebody was shooting M33 ball out of a .50 and upon impact the jacket tore off or the core squirted out and you found the core.

They make all kinds of .50. Bonded, lead core, solid brass, you name it. It's just a bit pricier than milsurp. AMAX is around $2 per PROJECTILE. It's just too pricey for plinking ammo, but hard core .50 shooters most definitly use them.

And I used to shoot with a guy who shot solid turned .50 bullets, brass or bronze I don't remember.
He had a recovered one that was bent into a candy cane after it hit something hard.

$2+ for just the BULLET.

But they sure looked cool.
