I have a friend who always complains about the high prices and long waits to shoot at Clelands indoor range.  Does anybody have a good place to shoot in Toledo?  He also told me that if you buy ammo at Clelands you had to shoot it in their range.

I don't know of any outdoor public ranges in the Toledo area.

There is a range just into Michigan. I have been there before with some buddies and cannot remember the name

but if you look it up on Google maps or something the address is 2308 W. Temperance rd. It is close to the intersection

of Douglas and Temperance rd. It is on the North side of the street. It is a private range, but it was pretty nice. I think they

went out to 100 meters for rifle and 25 for pistol. They also have a indoor pistol range.

Sorry I don't remember the name, but I thought they said it was $100 bucks a year and you got a key fob to shoot

whenever you wanted.

IIRC they have a wait list for new members.

Southern Michigan Sportsmans Club is the club in Temperance Michigan.  Great club $50.00 a year for membership.  $100 for 1st time members and yes you get a key to indoor range which is open 9am till 11 pm.  Just google Southern Michigan Sportsman's Club.

They do. Before I joined Adams, I called to get on their wait list. This was back in late May. I just got a letter in the mail from them last week telling me that if I wanted to join, I had to come to a meeting in the middle of October. So it was about a 5 month wait for me.

+1 GREAT place owned/staffed by very friendly people.

It might be a little further out than Cleland's, depending on where you're coming from, but its worth the trip.

If you rent their guns you have to buy their ammo to shoot.  No reloads in their guns, thats the reason.  He might have mixed up what they said.  I bring in ammo all the time.  Clelands is a great place to shoot.  But if you join southern michigan sportsman's club it's got a heated indoor pistol range and two outdoor ranges.

+1 for southern Michigan sportsman's club.

The outdoor range only goes to 100 yards.  There is no trap or skeet, no machine guns, and no shotguns allowed.  But, the indoor heated/cooled range with keycard access for members only until 11pm is well worth the $50 a year membership!

Just put your name on the list and wait to be called.

Wow even the rules for the indoor pistol range is single load only.

and this (http://www.smisclub.org/ClubNews.html):

  • We don't
    want members
    that burn up
    rounds. This
    club was
    founded for
    accuracy.
    Also, paper
    targets
    only.

  • The
    board members can't
    recognize 850
    members so we might
    want a passport
    photo with your 2010
    dues

Weird. I know for a fact that my buddy and I shot 30rd mags outdoors in the AR's and shot whatever capacity the pistol magazine held

that we were shooting. Maybe he does'nt know the rules or the rules are worded wrong....

We had 50 shooters yesterday on 2 relays for our high power match at Southern Michigan Sportsman's Club.  Attendance for our first 3 matches has been great.  We all loaded more than one round at a time.  Nobody yelled at me or anybody else.

Maybe there is an exception for matches, but I have always practiced for high power at the club and never been questioned.

Apparently the "in" thing to do is go online and bitch about local clubs.  Adams, Southern Michigan, and even Sandusky have been taking a lot of flak lately.  All of the whiners need to form their own club where they can have zero rules, run around with 50 pounds of gear on and bump fire shoot old cars.  Maybe then they will be happy.  I'm just glad I have a place to shoot.

OK, matches and course of fire are the exception.

The last time the rules were revised was before I was born. Haha

No one said anything close to that.
I did not here anything about bump fire or shooting old cars, or even carrying gear.
All that was said is that

it is single load only. I even argued agaist that stating that I have done that there. The attitude of im just glad I have a place to shoot would change

real quick, if it ever turned to muzzle loaders only, then airguns only, then airsoft only,  then paintball only, then throwing rocks only.

I really liked shooting at Southern Michigan. It is a very nice club. I did not know anything about the single load only "rule".

Thanks for the info guys.  I passed it on to my buddy at work.  He's stoked that he doesn't have to get robbed at Clelands anymore.  And by the way, I asked again to confirm with him and he said that Clelands told him that he could only buy ammo there if he was going to use it on their range.  This was a few months ago when ammo was hard to come by and they needed to keep their range up and running.

Speaking of Adams, I noticed that they had a list of "revised" rules in this months newsletter. I looked through it a few times, and the only thing that stuck out to me were a couple for the "utility range".

I didn't have a set of the old rules handy at the time to compare with the new ones. Do you happen to know if anything major has changed?

He'll get caught eventually. My friend was on the boad, but quit when they "had to consider" punishment for a guy who was caught shooting ballons on the back stop.

You're joking, right?

Had Adams not been accepting new members when I joined, I'd have joined Southern Michigan. Single load only, and getting reprimanded for shooting balloons? Yikes...

The rules were made easier to read and more consistent.  The two major things that jump out is allowing holster Draw on the utility range(that has been an ongoing debate for years as whether or not it was allowed or so that issue is finally put to rest) and allowing 22 rifles on the east end of John Grogan pistol range.   Trap & Skeet technically has more rules than before but the things that were added were rules that have been understood and practiced for years but now they are officially documented on paper.

Did they make it official I cant shoot my "riot gun" because the barrel is too short on their trap and skeet range any more?  I actually did pretty good, then they decided barrels had to be longer than 20" to play....
