Anybody ever use these forms to set up your gun trust ?

http://www.doityourselfdocuments.com/Estateplanning/Trust/nfaTrust.aspx

I am in Florida and have a friend who can notarize the document so it would only be a $30 investment.

I did a nolo.com trust It came free with purchasing quicken willmaker from amazon. I think I paid $40. It has worked fine for 5 NFA items.

They claim you can change the trust name at any time but it turns out you can't. I complainted to amazon and they refunded me the purchase price. Then I realized I can reformat the PDF that it creates into an editable PDF. One of the guys here that builds his own and sells NFA items reccomended NOLO and uses them himself.

Alot of people will say "you need a lawyer written one"....My response is "do you think nolo.com hired a burger flipper to write their documents?"

Thanks. Im going to check out the nolo.com one also.

Looks like a guy on theakforum confirmed it has the appropriate verbiage.

I agree, i think for the most part if you have a good template you should be good to go.

I just went to nolo.com and read this:

Question:

Can I use a Nolo living trust to make a gun trust?

Answer:

No. If you want to create a gun trust, get personalized legal advice from an expert on gun laws. Nolo living trusts are designed for the people who simply want to pass on their assets while avoiding probate. Gun trusts are complicated because they:

-- may need to last for more than one generation
-- may have multiple trustees, and
-- must address both state and federal weapons laws.

Nolo’s living trusts do not address these issues, and so you should not use Nolo living trusts to transfer weapons. If you want to make a gun trust, get help from a lawyer who has plenty of experience with these trusts and state and federal weapons laws.

Here is one attorney's opinion on this template and templates in general. I think he is spot on.

"From the webpage linked to:

By Paralegal Amy Wishart & Attorney Thomas A. Prediletto

If I had 25k machineguns in my Trust and or was using it for large scale estate planning maybe, (just so I'd have somebody to sue if it was messed up) but for a few $1500.00 AR15 SBR"s that can be removed from the NFA registry with removing of the short barrel and a note to the ATF it's not that big of a issue.

That being said my son who has worked as a Para-legal in another state for the last 6 yrs. had it unofficially "reviewed" and no issues or problems were outstanding. Of course it could not officially be signed off on "outside work" is verboten.

The reality is most lawyers for Trusts and Wills, Bankruptcy (and many other legal filings) use "fill in the blank" form software and the majority work is usually done by their Para-legal.

To each their own"

This can be seen on the ak forum.

I purchased the documents yesterday, once I receive them I will review them and get them notarized.

I export the trust from Quicken as a text file, then edit the name, save, print and notarize.

It's worked well for me.

I just did mine through do it yourself documents. Paid the fee gave them my info, had my trust in under an hour.

Now to figure out how to do the forms and get everything going!

So you went with the "2nd tier" option? Was it like 59.99 or something like that?

I used the basic option doityourselfdocuments NFA trust. It was easy as can be, and ATF approved my form 1 on this trust with no problems.

YMMV, IANAL, etc.

I just open my trust through Silencer Shop. It was super easy and I figured they would be GTG.

The DIY Documents is done by an actual lawyer, just so you know.  He is a lawyer in my hometown in Federal Way, WA that does them.

I'm currently using the DIYD NFA trust.   I did a _lot_ of research on trusts, months and based on everything I came up, the DIYD hits all the necessary bullet points that have listed out by various purported 'this is why you should use me to do your trust since I'm a lawyer and quicken doesn't do this' folks on the internets.

It is a very complete package with very easy to follow instructions and completely filled out sample forms.  Even has a letter for you to give to your financial institution for creating the trust checking account.

My NFA dealer said it was GTG and he's handled thousands at this point in his career.

YMMV of course and I'm just some faceless guy, not a lawyer, I've never even stayed at a Holiday Inn.
