Just did a run of Tactical Tailor ACU pouches, some miscellaneous origin ACU pouches, a USGI ACU waist pack, along with a complete ACU field uniform (Ranger cap, Coat, Pants, and under-armor combat shirt).

Used Rit Apple Green dye; results still drying, but MUCH more promising than results obtained using Rit Dk. Green Dye.  I thought the light-colored pixels were a little too yellowish-green on the nylon pouches at  first, and hung them on the clothes line to dry in the sun.  When I looked up at the sunlit pouches, and realized that It was very hard to see them against the sunlit trees behind them, I reconsidered.  The uniform, being of a different fabric, was overall darker, and greener.

My new standard is now Rit Apple Green dye for ACU, and Rit Dk Green dye for 3-color desert.

Pix in a couple of days, after things dry and I have some time.

I think the taupe looks good for brownish environments, although a bit brown and dark overall.   Still, that might be optimal under certain circumstances, and I will probably try some.    Another point to make is that the pictured uniform is of a very different fabric than most nylon pouches, and pix  of the uniform cannot be considered as representative of the same dye job performed on originally similar ACU pattern nylon pouches.

My ACU uniform dyed with Rit Apple Green looks very much like your olive drab uniform linked above.  I know what you mean about used ACU uniforms.  I hat to go through a ton of clothing items to get one each cap, combat shirt, coat, and pants that actually fit me.  OTOH, more average-sized folks would have a field day in my local surplus shop.

Sorry about no pix yet.  Among other things, we here in RI are in the last days of or Legislature's session, and still facing the distinct possibility of some quite draconian anti-gun legislation being passed, and I am contributing my small part to the effort to prevent this from happening.

So, forgive the delay, and please be patient.  I'll put 'em up probably this coming Sunday.

Finally the long-awaited pix.  First a caveat: the ACU uniform appears to the naked eye as being considerably greener than as depicted in direct sunlight.  In reality, it appears to be a bit lighter, and a bit greener than the pants in the shade.
Also, although the pouches seem to show major differences in green tint in direct sunlight, to the naked eye, the difference in green shading from one to the other is barely detectable.  Pouches shown are all Tactical Tailor ACU pouches.  Not shown are various other mfr pouches and various USGI items dyed in same batch, since they appeared the same to the naked eye as the TT pouches.

Items are backlit, and in mostly shade.  In reality, the color of the overall uniform matches the shaded portion of the pants leg.


In reality, everything is a bit greener.  The pouches are greener/darker than the coat.


Compare things to tree in background.  Pants are a bit darker in reality.


As usual, the pix do not adequately convey reality.  Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the results.
