Your revolver was made somewhere between 1988 and 1993. If they are in good shape, it's a good price.

This is a tag.

I just picked up a pretty nice 6" Mdl 28-2 (.357 mag), ser. no. N193xxx a couple weeks ago and would like to know more about it too.

N100000 was approx. 1973
N200000 was approx 1974-1977
N300000 was approx. 1975-1976
N400000 was approx. 1977-1978   according to the Standard Catalog of Smith And Wesson
N70000 was approx. 1980

The 29-3 was brought out in 1982 after the cylinder counterbore and pinned barrel were eliminated

30th Blue Book shows $800/100%    and $700/98%   for 29-2

6.5 inch barrel may bring a premium even though 6" is more scarce according to Standard Catalog

Deduct $100-150 if it does not have the wooden target grips. That is what your gonna pay for a nice set if you want it original.

29-2  SN# N77149x would fall under what years? It's a P&R gun. I figured it was around 1979 but the dates above would say otherwise unless 300,000 guns were made that year.

Interesting. My 29-2 4" (was a 6" until it had a transplant) is N682XXX, which looks like quite a few years production beyond the range mentioned above. I once had its' year narrowed to a two-year span but I forget exactly. Seems like it was the mid-80's though.

My 29-2 6-1/2" is N372XXX but looks like it left the factory less than six months ago.

Oh, OP, you better JUMP on that smokin' deal!!!

I have a model 10-8 serial # 555XX. Under the serial # is stamped F7. I've googled but can't determine an age. Anyone here have an Idea?

Well after some further searching I don't think I posted the serial # I think I posted an assembly #. I found another # under the grips 6D41XXX and the grips are stamped April 29th 1987. I assume it was made in 87.

To the OP, that sounds like a good deal. That is desirable gun, and they aren't making any more of them. Be a nice present to yourself, along with the Dirty Harry boxed set

*Note that a number of N frames with serials in the S138000-S140000 range (and the range may be wider either way) are seen that were shipped much later than the serial would suggest should be the case. In one known example a gun with serial S136431 was not shipped until June of 1958. It's possible that a large block of serial numbers that appear to be from 1954-55 were not actually used until 1957-58. It at least one case a gun has a 5-screw serial and was built as a 4-screw gun.

Are these prices similar to a nickel finished 8 3/8" M29?  I'm guessing the nickel would pull a slight premium over blued, but not sure how much.  S/N: N301xxx, so I assume it's in the same general ballpark?
