Just purchased an AK-74 with a 14.5 barrel, which is essentially about 2 inches shorter than standard. I know I will lose some velocity.

If I zero @ 50 yards will I see any significant difference in POI at 25, 100, and 200 yards versus the same with a 16.5 inch barrel? If so, by how much? Keep in mind this is 5.45x39.

I'm sure there will be some, but the round is extremely flat and doesn't loose velocity like the 556 or 223 with shorter barrels. If there is a difference, I don't think it will be worth mentioning IMO. Let's see pics of rifle!

Please excuse my crappy phone pics.

This is a Krebs Custom AK-74K.

The "K" in 74K designates that it has a 2 inch shorter barrel with a pinned compensator to meet NFA rules for barrel length. I haven't got the chance to shoot it, but Krebs did laser bore sight and test fire and provided the test target. Very tight groups.

Rather than go tacticool on this build, I'm going with nice wood furniture and a Russian optic.

With the $1300 price tag also comes EXCELLENT customer service. I've already spoken to Marc Krebs several times asking him questions. Very friendly folks over there at Krebs. I have the peace of mind knowing if I have ANY problems whatsoever Krebs will make it right no questions asked.

I can't put into words how amazing the finish is on this rifle. The phone pictures don't do it justice. It's finer than any AR or pistol I've ever seen.

I would also like to add that Krebs said that by me ordering the shortened barrel version, Krebs has to recrown the barrel (of course). He said the crowning machine that Krebs uses is MUCH more advanced than what they are using over in Russia and produces better accuracy than a factory AK.

So...if you order a Krebs AK think about getting a Carbine version, otherwise Krebs doesn't recrown a factory length barrel.

Some pics:

very nice. Hard to beat a Krebs.

That's one sweet rifle!

As already stated, the slightly shorter barrel won't really make any "real world" difference.

I'm not sure if that's correct or incorrect. I'm fairly certain you will get some velocity loss, but it doesn't effect the expected ballistics of the 5.45x39 round.

Very nice! Which folding stock is that and which folding mechanism did you use? Is it possible to fold to the ejection side?

My only complaint about the Krebs is the price. For that kind of $ it should have the folding stock IMO. Otherwise, excellent stuff!

For that muzzle break, I would find a wire brush that will expand so you can clean it. Not going to be an easy chore, but something will need to be done IMO.

Do you say that because my version has a pinned muzzle break? Where can I find a wire brush that expands? Never seen one. I use an expanding foam carbon/lead cleaner that should work great in that area.

I agree...for that price it should be a folde

use a shotgun wire brush. It will fit through the muzzle end and expand inside.

The folder from Mako Fab Defense is from Israel for their army but sold here through Fab Defense or The Mako Group  I was apprehensive of the poly folder but this one is solid and very well made. I like and use the adjustable cheek riser for using my scope or red dot !!  @$ 129-149 no adapter needed.. The stock fits right on the end of your receiver just like the original fixed stock no modification needed. Ihave read where others have switched the folder to fold on the other side . FAC did a great review on this stock on the Military Channel on You Tube

If you don't mind...With the FAB folding stock at is shortest setting what is the length in inches from the back of the AK lower receiver to the end of the stock (including the folding mechanism)?

Also, will it fold with an optic attached to the mount on the left side? Didn't know if there was a large enough gap.

It is the Nato length not the Warsaw and is not collapsable!   I can give you an exact measure when I get home tonight. The folder will not close completely with a side rail ie like a UTG but still folds and is usable for pack or handling in CQ .  Not ideal though . If you modded to fold on other side as you know you would be clear.

No need to measure if it not shorter than my Warsaw length stock. Appreciate it.
