Hey all. I'm looking to start a new project, and I want to get a lower engraved with some custom fire control markings and graphics on the sides of the mag well. Google is only coming up with a few places (Shadow Ops, for example), and although I have an inquiry in to them, I am not sure they can do what I want.

Specifically, I don't want to deal with sending a lower back and forth a bunch of times. I would like to just buy a lower from the same place doing the engraving. I'd also like it if they sold an upper that matched the lower, i.e. fit well with no gaps. I don't care about whether they are forged or billet, I just want one-stop shopping for the upper and lower combo with the engraving. I also don't want an 80% lower. Needs to be ready to drop a parts kit in when I take it home from my local FFL.

Anyone have any suggestions? Search-fu is turning up a lot of 80% lowers and engraving services where you have to send them the lower, but not much else.

Thanks!

Anyone?  Anyone?  Nothing, huh?

Anyone hear of or use York Arms or Orion Arms?

This guy was looking for blank receivers as well:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_128/654865_Does_someone_make_sell_lowers_that_have_no_bullet_pictograms___Just_blank_.html

This is the link for the blank receivers (I don't know if they do custom engraving)

Blank lowers

As far as finding someone to purchase from and do the engraving, I do not know. My suggestion would be local manufacturers. For example, there was a guy machining his own brand of lowers where I live and I heard about it from a local gun shop. Find someone like that to get a custom job done. Other than that I can't be of any more help.

Quentin Defense in Gilbert AZ. They do billet upper and lowers in house and also offer forged. They are both on sale right now as well. Their billet sets are awesome as they don't require roll pins; probably my favorite receiver I have ever built out.

depends on what you are looking for.  Vader Spade will only do un touched 80% lowers.  these are machine engraved not hand engraved.  He doesn't have an FFL thus why he won't touch a lower that less then 80%

John B is an old school engraver - think hand engraving.  This web site lists professional engravers.  http://www.fega.com/memberwebpages/masterdetail.asp?recidparam=27

Another option is to laser engrave  https://www.facebook.com/sureshotprecision  they have an FFL so you can transfer your piece down and back.

search engines sometimes suck.

Oc custom coatings has a member on staff who is VERY handy with deep laser engraving.
I had them trace the laser markings on a Noveske MUR, and then I color filled them myself.
Email me for pics.
They can do some crazy graphics that have a 3d look.
Very impressive work.

JD Machine in San Diego CA did some incredible photo quality engraving for my special project. When my son was going through basic training in the air force I was busy at home building him something he could be proud of, as proud as I am of him. JD Machine took a lower and engraved the air force wings on the left side and on the right side they engraved his squadron logo which was an eagles head with a banner below, above the eagles head it said "second to none" , so in the banner under the eagle I had them put "Airman Lancaster, and the date he graduated basic training".  This was a few years ago and at the time they were the only company that could do photo etching on a firearm that had a FFL. The engraving is so light you can barely feel it, the detail is amazing. I will try and dig up some photos when I get back to the house. But when he finally came home after tech school, I presented him with a complete AR15 in a case and let him pick any optic out of the safe, he chose the Aimpoint Comp II. The upper was a complete Spikes midlength 16" barrel version. He was shocked, today I am even more proud of all that he has accomplished in the USAF and he is stationed in Minot North Dakota. Proud of you son!!!!!!!

I've had my engraving done by Gray Laser Engraving, pretty much on the other side of the San Antonio metro area from me.  Mr. Gray is a great guy, and he's good at what he does.  Didn't cost much at all for my SBR engraving, and he has the capability to engrave graphics too.  Check him out.

Do you know if they will do it in the trigger opening area, like Ident does?  I have done all of mine in that area, but would like to go with Gray this time if they will do it there.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if he can do that area, but he'd certainly tell you either way.  Email him.  He's very easy to contact - check out his web page.  When I contacted him about my engraving, he emailed back really quickly.
