I need to " stick " a soap dish back in ... in a white ceramic tile bath.

At first I thought about JB weld... hmmm maybe not.

Any ideas of what works best ?

Mastic, you can get it at any home center, it is the same stuff used to install the ceramic tile in the first place.

+1 above
I have used Type 1 wall tile adhesive with good results.

Same here after I tore the soap dish off in our shower... OK, yes, alchohol was involved. I was in the process of falling down and for some reason it wouldn't hold my 250lb dumb ass up.

Just make sure that all the old mastik is cleaned off the soapdish and wall.

I stuck it on with Loctite GP ... it reminds me of " Goop " but is initially thinner.

I'll test it and let ya know... I need a solid mount here.

I'm setting this tub up for my mom... she's 85 this summer.
I need to add some bars ( hand holds ) to the standard bath.

If anybuddy has any ideas, I'd sure appreciate your input.

thanks

You talking grab bars?  I can walk you through that piece of cake, and it is very easy.

I think I just put mine on with caulk.

I definately DO NOT recommend that!

I saw a tile guy use hot glue and caulking.

Use what you are supposed to use.  Thinset.

Um, no.  Not thinset for shower walls.  Mastik.

I only did what the instructions said.  And I never had any problems.

But maybe I was just lucky.

Huh?

Calk is a sealent, not an adhesive.  Hence, I have never known ANYONE to do this!  You may be on to something to here!

Was it attached to sheetrock, backer board, or what?  How long has it held there?

I am always open to new ways to do things, but I have never ONCE, in my 12 years of construction, seen directions that call for installing a soap dish with latex calk.  Was it acrylic?

You have my interest piqued.

"Um, no. Not thinset for shower walls. Mastik."

If the tile is installed on the correct cement backer board thinset is the prefered method.

I was a ceramic soap dish on a tile wall.  And it just called for bath and sink caulk.  It stayed without a problem for the couple of years I owned the place  (and in a slightly related item I reccomend against remodeling your bathroom in a one bathroom house).

The soap dish was pulled off the grout stuff ...  somebody with a bad back pulled on it while getting up out of the tub.

The waterproof Loctite is holding pretty secure.

I need to add grab bars, and if possible lower the shower head about 18".
Does Lowes sell grab bars ?
