Not for serious competition. Looking for a suppressor ready target rifle running CCI SV, primarily. I have a Savage MkII FVT setup as a long range trainer, but I like to shoot Appleseed with a bolt action, and it’s not very good for that because the action doesn’t like to move that fast and the magazines ar not great. Otherwise, it’s a very accurate gun but not threaded for suppressor.

I can get a CZ 457 At-one for just under $700 OTD or a Ruger American Rimfire Target Stainless (model 8367) for about $525 OTD

I could go with a cheaper model RAR, but add the cost of a decent stock, and it’s more than the Target model.

I have a couple 10/22s, so magazine commonality is a plus. I do like 10/22 mags better than the single stack style.

I had an early RAR compact that shot above its price point. I also had a Ruger Precision Rimfire that was great other than the shitty chassis and random flyers.

I have no experience with the CZ other than reading great things about it.

I would also add the Tikka T1x to your list to consider. Very accurate rifle and comparable/competitive to the CZ 457. They are around $600-650.

But between your 2 options, I'd go 457. The 457 At-one gives you more adjustability, over the RAR Target. Even if you ended up investing in an At-one stock for the RAR, you'd be at the price point of the 457.

I personally am not a fan of the 10/22 mags.  I feel that the proprietary mags on my Tikka T1x feeds better/smoother than the 10/22 mags.

Get the CZ 457. This is my CZ 457 Varmint MTR. I added a 20 MOA rail, a Vortex Venom 5-25x56 scope and a Magpul bipod. The targets are it's first shots with CCi standard velocity ammo at 50 yards.

How are the 10 round magazines for the CZ?

I believe it’s a similar design to my Savage. Functionally, they are fine, but I can’t shoot off-hand without the mag digging into my arm. I wish there was an extended baseplate to get 8 rounds into a 5-round magazine.

It comes with a 5 round mag that is darn near flush. The 10 round mags stick out similarly to my savage 10 round mags.

Love my 457 CZ's. But 10 rd mags are currently hard to find, unless you are willing to pay stupid high prices from the neckbeards. New aluminum 13 rd mags are on the market from L3I but they ain't cheap either. AT-1 stocks are pretty easy to sell if you find you don't like it. My suppressed Pro Varmint is a good shooter.

Have you thought about a Bergara B14r?

I have handled the B14r. Beautiful rifle, just not looking for a full-sized trainer in this case.

A lot of excellent points and suggestions in here, but I ended up going with the Ruger target model. It will be more of a plinking gun and cost about 30% less than the CZ. Ruger has really good customer service too

Have / had both and prefer the CZ at-one.

The RAR target was very heavy. The long barrel at-one balances better and shoots better.

I put in an email notification at midway for the 10rd mags. I bought 2 when they came in stock. It’s about the only way I’ve seen anyone have any luck getting them at a normal price.

The unfortunate part is with ruger quality as of late, there is a fair chance you will need customer service!

I went through the same debate a few years ago but honestly the only reason the RAR was even considered was because of the mags it uses. Ultimately decided I'd rather have a better rifle with inferior mags rather then better mags with an inferior rifle...

I remain happy with that decision

Perfect set up!

I have an older 452 varmint.  I would thread it when I move to a free state.   Just like yours,.....smooth transition from the barrel.  Well executed!
