OK one last plug for Dark Angel. Last Song on their last (?) album. Their lyrics aren't shallow.

Plenty of clean singing by Phil Anselmo in the more melodic parts of the song, with more grit in the harsher parts of the song.

I'll second Melissa Bonny.
Her current band is Ad Infinitum, and formerly fronted Rage of Light and Evenmore. She also seems to love doing side projects and cameos: duet with Charlotte Wessels (former lead singer of Delain), a heavy cover of Enya's 'May It Be' which a lot of people know from Lord of the Rings.
