GunCat  [Team Member]
12 or 20 gauge screw in choke tubes installed in your barrel. $135 per barrel

Price includes 3 choke tubes (Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full), a choke tube wrench and return shipping anywhere in the CONUS Work will be completed and your barrel back on the way to you (via Insured US Priority Mail) in less than 14 days from receipt. (Contact me via ARFCOM IM or ARFCOM Mail for a special deal)

Top quality piloted reamers and taps are powered by a precision lathe to ensure a straight, tight fit in your barrel.

For 12 gauge choose from Rem-Choke, Win-choke (interchangeable with Browning Invector and Mossberg Accu-choke), Tru-Choke or Tru-choke "Thinwall" style of choke tubes. 20 gauge tubes are available in the Tru-Choke style.

I can also shorten your barrel (within approved limits), install a new sight bead, and lengthen the forcing cone (12 GA) while it is in the shop for choke work. Contact me for package deals.

Already have the choke tubes and just want another barrel threaded? That's just $75 (CONUS return shipping included)

Money Orders, Certified Funds, and Personal Checks from U.S banks

Can I have choke tubes installed in my barrel?

(The Fine Print)

Adequate barrel wall thickness is required for safe installation of screw-in chokes. While the vast majority of today's shotgun barrels are more than thick enough we occasionally encounter a barrel that is too thin to safely machine. To ensure that your barrel is of adequate thickness for your choice of choke tube simply measure the outside diameter of the barrel at the muzzle with a caliper or micrometer.

12 gauge single barrels must be at least .845" to accept Rem-choke and Win/Browning/Mossberg chokes, at least .825" for the Tru-Choke tube or at least .805" for the Tru-choke "Thinwall" tube.

20 Gauge single barrels must measure a minimum of .705" for the Tru-Choke tubes.

Double barrel guns may require a slightly larger diameter, contact me for specifics.

Maximum bore diameters also apply, although this is rarely an issue unless the barrel has been altered by back boring or jug choking. I will take precise measurements of each aspect of your barrel to ensure safe installation.

Im at work so i can't check my barrel thickness right now. Can you do Saiga 12's? The receiver would have to come with it so im guessign youd have to be an FFL for that.

If the barrel is thick enough and the bore is a standard .725 - .730 (not "overbored") you can have tubes installed.

Yes, I have the 01 FFL

I have a ribbed Remington Express barrel I would like shortened to 18" and threaded for Remchoke tubes and have a new bead installed. Can you give me an idea of the cost and turn around time?
cosmos556  [Member]
Hey if you're considering working with GunCat, I HIGHLY recommend him!! Communication is excellent, turn around time was just a couple days, and the work looks great.

I had a 28" 870 VR barrel chopped down to just under 19" (to match the ribs), bead front site installed, and threaded for Rem-Choke tubes. It's an AWESOME job! Now I'm sending this work of art off to another Arfcom member to get refinished

steve is awesome to work with, great work done quick... threaded my 870 and back within a week!
_Anarchist_  [Member]
Email sent - Browning & Remington 10ga also?
billpete  [Team Member]
I had Steve cut down my 870 barrel, thread it for chokes, and provide 4 chokes––it was an awesome package deal. I HIGHLY recommend him for his work. As for pricing, it would have been more expensive to purchase a new barrel––it was that good of a price and the service was amazing.

Can you SBS a Benelli M4 provided all correct paperwork is in-order? What would the cost of this be/have you done it before?

Sorry...I am not set up to reattach the mag. tube hanger or sight tower.

O/Us OK? I have a Citori I want done.
GunCat  [Team Member]
The O/U (and SxS) is good to go as long they meet the minimum barrel diameters.

IM sent with more details.
bmyk  [Team Member]
This is exactly what I want. THANK YOU! May I ask the price for the work? I may have to get barrel out of the safe this weekend....

I replied to your PM.

I'll be waiting at door for your barrel

When shortening a Remington 1100 barrel, do you do anything to the gas ports?
GunCat  [Team Member]
On the 12ga Remington specs call for the same port size on standard (non magnum) barrels from 34” down to 22” long. Whether or not adjustments to the gas port(s) are needed when getting down into the shorter barrels would depend upon the reliable functioning of the gun, standard or magnum barrel, your chosen load, etc. All 1100's seem to have a personality of their own - but on the shorter barrels (< 22”) you may need to open the ports a few thousands for reliable functioning.

Finally got to shoot my barrel yesterday. Fire Remington 00 buck and Remington reduces recoil slugs. Fired at 10 and 25 yards. Slugs hit where I placed the bead at both ranges. At 10 yards, the pellets from the buck shot hit at point of aim in a palm sized group. At 25 yards, still hitting POA, group was about hand sized (including fingers this time. These results are with the modified choke tub installed. I did fire 5 rounds of buck shot with the breacher choke installed and patterns opened up a little. The fiber optic bead sight is amazing, it draws your eye right to the target, put the orage blob on the target and the 870 is now a death ray. I have a Limb Saver slip on on the Speed Feed II (sans butt pad) which really eats up any felt recoil. The great results from the barrel and the lack of recoil make shooting this 870 a breeze. I want to try some different buck shot loads, samplings of what and see how everything else patterns. I also want to try birdshot with my full and Widow Maker turkey chokes to see what it will at the Turkey Shoots this fall.

If you have a barrel laying around, send it to GunCat and let him work his magic on it. Great service, fast turnaround, excellent value for the money.

Here is a picture of my shotgun. The barrel is the original 870 Express VR RC barrel (circa 1990). I wanted a shorter barrel so I sent it to GunCat who cut and crowned the barrel, threaded it for Rem Choke tubes, lengthened and polished the forcing cone, and installed a fiber optic bead (best $10 ever spent). I mailed it on Tuesday, he mailed it back on Saturday (four day turn around).

More later when I can take pictures of the targets. Cosmo556 has a better write up but with the same barrel. Same great results.
Thank You GunCat / RAS.

Do you offer these services for over/unders as well? Approximate cost for shorten and thread for chokes?

ETA: Sorry, just saw this questions posted above. I'll read more carefully next time!!
GunCat  [Team Member]
Double guns can have tubes installed if the barrels are thick enough and the barrel to barrel solder joint is in good shape. Be sure to measure the OD of both barrels (see the EE ad for minimum dimensions).
AK74play  [Member]
I have a new 20 guage 870 barrel and was wondering if it can be threaded for Rem chokes because I already have a full set of 20 ga, tubes.? And if so is the barrel muzzel O.D. the same nesessary for thr tru-chokes? I already know you can do the 12 guages and I have an 18 inch Factory remington vent rib barrel I will send you but if you can do the 20 guage for Rem chokes I will send both at the same time. Any help you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated. If you could , please e-mail me with any other info I might need befor shipping..Thanks in advance.
Best way to reach is at (bootlegger@iquest.net)
GunCat  [Team Member]
The minimum measurement for a 20 ga barrel with Rem-chokes should be .725” at the OD. However...neither I nor anyone else I've ran across can install 20 ga Rem-Chokes. Why? Because none of the tooling makers (that I am aware of) offer the tooling for 20ga Rem-Choke installation.

Sorry
AK74play  [Member]
Thanks for the quick response. I will contact you directly on the phone on the work on the 12ga barrel. I don't know anything about the Tru-choke tubes so I think I will put it on hold for a while and do some more research. Thanks again and will call during your business hours later in the week...
GunCat  [Team Member]
I had mentioned to some of yall that my Rem-Choke tooling was out for re-sharpening and there might be a delay during October....well now the tooling is back and I'm going full speed ahead

guncat, what brand of tubes to you provide with this deal? I mean, if i get a 'rem choke" cut, do you send remington factory tubes or another aftermarket brand?

I`ve got a Valmet 412 ST. It has 32" barrels, can you shorten the barrels and I want to keep the Valmet choke tube system. Can you do this?

Shortening the barrels is not a problem, but I don't think you'll find anyone that can re-install those same Valmet tubes. AFAIK they are proprietary tubes that are not interchange with any of the more common tubes - so no installation tooling is available outside the factory. Thinwall or Tru-Choke tubes might be an option if the barrel dimensions are adequate, but of course that means all new choke tubes.
