Everyone here has like professional looking reloading benches.
I live in an apartment so my setup isn't very impressive. Its on my computer desk.. Once I get a garage i'll be rocking the pro look. |

I was able to get a real nice tubular stainless steel frame "topless" , from a restaurant auction place up the road here that will be the chassis. I will build around that. The stainless frame is heavy and solid as a rock. I will most likely bracket it to the wall studs but overall my setup will be modular and can move if she ever lets me move to the spare "extra room" upstairs. For now, I am happy with the garage And my car still fits! |

Anybody ever use existing drawers from furniture for a home made reloading bench? I have an old wood/metal desk thats may be some old govt. office furniture. Real heavy, has metal trays with wood fronts. I was going to make an 8 foot table against the garage wall and use the drawers. Still havent figured out how to arrange them in the design.

I don't have any pics up yet, but I made a bench on one side is an old cabinet from my kitchen after I remodeled. Pull out drawer on top and just a normal cabinet drawer with shelf inside. Worked out good for me....my bench isn't the prettiest but it works |

I trimmed it out on the top half with Heart Pine and that will for sure stay natural. Honestly, I will probably leave the whole thing natural. If anyone was wondering, the table top is three 2x6 that were sanded down until they were all level and then a sheet of 3/4" cabinet grade Birch plywood for the top. I'll take some more pictures when I move it to the garage. I still have to get a light and a couple of odds and ends for the bench. |

Extra Dillon quick change assemblies and a BR -30 measure go on the top shelf, frequently used stuff stays on the main deck (a double thickness of 3/4" ply) with the press, powder and less frequently used items go on the second shelf and bullets (and an ammo can of primers) store on the bottom shelf. Extra primer feed tubes live in a piece of PVC screwed to the side. Between the weight of the wood itself, the dies sets and a few thousand bullets at any given time, it has plenty of weight and is rock solid even though it is free standing. http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/h470/SDBB57/BBC4E620-1634-4832-BAAD-BDCEF45F0B4F-1449-000002EF53A51CC7_zps7a221311.jpg http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/h470/SDBB57/8E37B731-7F93-4E3C-8FF5-2F1BDC82E938-1449-000002EF47DFE186_zps86518e2f.jpg That looks solid as a rock. I'm plotting/scheming/planning my next bench, and getting to the point where I'm either going to make it a free-standing press mount (like yours) that will go next to my current bench, or an enormous bench that I can unship the press from when I need all the real estate for 'smithing. What color is it really? Your pictures came out looking somewhere between blue-gray and very light lavender... |

There are 2x4s on edge around the insides of the base to add strength and support the bottom shelf. The middle shelf is supported by 2x4s on the sides and back. The main working surface sits on top the sides and there are 2x4s underneath it on the sides that stop about 4" short of the front. The paint is gray with a hint of blue tint, which actually goes well with the Dillon press. That's accidental though as I just wanted a gray semi gloss paint that would not look too dirty, would wipe down easily and be light enough in color to show small parts and not "eat" light if the light levels were low. |

It will also let me place some things a little further apart and get a fresh start on staining the top with cleaning solvents, oil, and grease. The good thing about not having the floor done is that you don't have to worry staining falling. That is a great looking bench, I need to build up a better one myself (tired of it walking all over the room resizing 308 ) |
That is a great looking bench, I need to build up a better one myself (tired of it walking all over the room resizing 308 )
To be honest the bench was not that good looking and there are a lot of flaws (the bulk of the material was free) but the minwax gun stock shade stain hid a lot of it REALLY well. Honestly, it hides where I bit the frame with the circular saw trying to trim the edges of the plywood too closely. It also hid the hammer marks in the wood that were there when I got it, and the bad knots that had popped. |

I'm interested in seeing what you come up with to route the hoses from the compressor and vacuum. I've often thought about a retractable or some type of desk top port opening for a vacuum. Just never got around to doing it, nor have I seen it done before. I was thinking something like a port used for a all house vacuum where you just plug the hose into the wall - each room has a port. |

Thank you for the kind words! I still wasn't able to get the top "plywood flat" but with the poly it is completely sealed and damn close enough. I was going for weight and stability with the 2x6's. Accomplished.
As for the connections, the air compressor will have a 3 foot hose coming off the tank. I will drill through the table just big enough for the hose, slip the hose down from the top so the hose will slide but the fitting won't, and then attach the male end after the hose is run. I have a cheap plastic coil hose that I can just attack when i need it and when i don't, it will be out of the way. For the vacuum, i went to the local Boating Supply store and found these. It will fit perfectly to my smaller shop vac. I can just buy an extra hose from Lowes. Through Hull Fittings I will get pictures as I do my project, but only have weekends to work on it now. |

Simple and effective. I will certainly use it and I think it might resolve a spent primer tube through the bench problem I have been trying to resolve. |
