It's hard to believe but the sharpest knives that have ever been used in recent years were mounted with stone flakes made of obsidian. A company called Aztecnics was manufacturing and selling surgical scalpels mounted with different sizes and shapes of obsidian blades. Good quality obsidian fractures down to single molecules which can produce a cutting edge 500 times sharper than the sharpest steel scalpel blade ("American Medical News", Nov. 2, 1984:21). On the cellular level an obsidian knife can cut between cells rather than tear the cells as a steel knife will do. A sharper cut will allow a wound to heal more rapidly with less scarring. High magnification of a steel scalpel blade edge looks like a serrated saw blade but an obsidian edge looks smooth. I know an archaeologist who had some surgery done a few years ago using obsidian knives. In the tape of the operation at the initial cut to open the abdomen the doctor remarks "oouuu that's sharp"!
Hell, even some chimps make sharper knives than some of us, lol:

......I am not sure i want to try and argue about tools i have personally never seen or handled...i.e. cavemen knives...but i def. am not sold on your math. The new microtech i pic'd above is soooo freaking sharp that its ridiculous to need a sharper blade than that one.
Oh you don't have to believe me just because of that link...I forget where exactly I learned that, but it was definitely from a reputable source...either in a documentary or a book or an article. You can certainly look it up yourself as well and see that it is indeed true...

I did not mean the info on the link was junk....i meant the link does not work so its junk

I am far to un-educated about primitive weapons and tools to even begin to debate the issue but i do believe that its almost like semantics once you reach a certain edge and sharpness.....i mean really how much sharper can it get than a microtech or similar type premium blade mfg.
My new-to-me Halo 3..... I am losing my mind looking for a kydex belt holster for it.

Sweet piece pal.....how do you like the operation of those halo's?

I know you didn't ask me...
I'd much rather carry a DA auto like a Scarab. It's a pain to have to pull the charging handle back to pull the blade into the handle.

The way mine will be carried will be off hand as a back up to the side arm / weapons retention. When the blade comes out I will need to wipe the blood off before pulling the blade back in.

Be it good or bad what did microtech go that route with it for?

Lockup is much tighter with a single action OTF. Double actions will have a slight bit of play in the blade.

Well put sir and thanks for the reply.
After the Entrek I ordered turned out to be an unfinished hunk of shit, I ended up picking up a Tom Brown Tracker Scout with some of the store credit.
It's really a shame too. I liked the design.

I've made obsidian blades. They are indeed very sharp. If you look at a steel blade, even something as sharp and precise as a scalpel, under an intensely magnified microscope, you'll see a mountain range of jagged edges, bumps and more. Look at an obsidian tool under the same magnification and it's completely straight and razor-edged. It's due entirely to the way it fractures. I was wearing thick work gloves when making them and a large chunk cut right through the gloves and made a good nick in my finger.
my newly acquired Rat/ESEE RC-4
picked it up for a hunting/fishing knife. i'm really impressed with the quality and edge. made a nice bald spot on my arm with ease
NICE! I've got a few ER's around here including a bayonet. I'll dig up some pictures and post 'em.
This is the only knife picture I have right now. I know it's a crappy cheap knife but it is my first 550 cord project and I think it turned out kinda cool.
My EDC weapons, Glock 17 Gen 3, S&W M442-2, SureFire E2D, Spyderco Endura stainless plainedge (ghettowaved by me), and Kershaw Military Boot Knife.
Here's some zombie weapons, Cold Steel Latin Machete, American Tomahawk Company Rifleman's Hawk, Remington 870 Wingmaster and Glock 17.
