Does anyone make a product that lets you put drop info on the gun?  Not sure exactly what search term to use or I would do a search for replies on this.  I'm looking for something that will let me put my zero and some simple drop information on the gun itself.  I believe I've seen some products in the past that are made for this, but nothing that impressed me enough to buy them.  I'm thinking a clear waterproof cover that is tough and attaches to the forearm area of the weapon.  With small labels that you can put inside the cover, so they can be changed out if you decide to change your zero.

I remember seeing an dust cover that had a retractable "tape" you could write on for this purpose.I tried to google it but couldn't find it.  you might look into it.

Why on the forearm? You cant really see it when your prone and its get the most abuse.

just use a label maker, its works well and you can throw it on the stock. It has lasted a very long time on my rifles.

ymmv

I tried labels on the buttstock.  But they just didn't stick very well.  And I'd like something that looks a little nicer too.  Something that blends with the gun better and is made for a specific purpose.  Stock or butt doesn't matter.  But for my uses, I think it would be less likely to wear off on the forearm.

I tape mine on the inside of the rear scope cover. When its flipped up, its easy to read.

Thanks for the replies. I'll get a set of the Butler Creeks and either order a Scope Dope or tape to the inside of the Butler Creek and see how I like that on the .270. I don't see any place to order the Allison Pathfinder. No way to order it on their site either, that I see.

I still need something that could mount on the forearm (or buttstock). One gun has screw on caps that I like and don't want to change. One has an angled scope so the Butler Creeks won't fit. And Butler Creeks won't fit on at least two others. So I need another solution.

Just write or print your dope on a 3x5 card, and tape it to the stock, or zip tie it to one of the scope rings. No need to overthink it.

I've already done that in the past.  Works but not a good long term solution.  And not a very elegant one either.  I don't want to have to worry about tape coming off, or rain messing up the card, when I need it.

I'm really surprised someone hasn't come up with a better solution for this.

No one has come up with a better solution, because its not needed, to be honest. Elegance is a waste of time when dope changes so often, due to a hundred different variables.

I laminated my reticle drop sheet and stuck it on the side of my PRS stock with double sided tape.  It is small and out of the way yet readily available.

I have to go with SRT on this one. I have no issues remembering drop data for my 22, and I use 4 different cartridges depending on what I'm doing. When you zero at a certain range shoot it at a longer range to find the drop at that distance. Then shoot the different distances with a different load to see how it's POI compares to the first load.

When I shoot my 22 I know that a Stinger will hit about 1 Mil high at 50 Yards compared to mini mags and blazers. And I know that CB Longs will hit about 2 Mils low at 25 yards compared to mini mags and blazers. I'm not sure how many loads you use, but I would imagine with some range time you could easily figure out the data you need and commit it to memory.

Liquid Metal, I like that.  It almost looks like a metal plate.  Is it actually justpaper that's laminated?  Gives me an idea... find a shop/company that makes those metal stamped labels and get them to put info on that.

If it was just one rifle, I could just remember the data.  But I have several and no way I'll remember the drop info.  Especially if a critical situation ever came up.  Even if it changes due to weather, wind, etc. I at least want a basic idea for each weapon as to what to expect.  Yes, I've been testing some different ammo already.  And will come up with the one I like best for each gun.  Then that's the info I'll put on the stock.  I've probably got 10 different .22's to shoot this Friday to see which I like best.  How much will a suppressor change the POI?

Laminated paper, used the laminator at work to do it.  That particular rifle has a second focal plane scope with a BDC reticle.  Chart shows the BDC values of the reticle at each given magnification.  I generally shoot only one type of ammo through that rifle so it is relevant the majority of the time.  I might choose different drop info on a different rifle with a different scope.

I've already done the card/tape route.  It works OK.  But I've always worried about it falling off at just the wrong time.  Looking for something more dependable and not so ugly.

Picked up a set of Butler Creek caps this afternoon and put those on.  Now I need to order a Scope Dope, or see if I can make my own on paper and laminate it.

With the duct tape and Krypon on my shit, the packing tape covered index card doesnt seem so bad.

If it works and you're comfortable with it, go with it.  I just never felt like a piece of paper taped on the stock was going to be there that long.

I know guys who have had the same dope card taped to their stock so long it faded to where it was unreadable. We have guys at our PD who only shoot 168gr FGMM, and have had the same dope card taped up for at least ten years. No offense, but you are overthinking it.

have you actually tried it?

If you really want it to be permanent, get a small piece of brass, have it laser engraved, epoxy to gun stock.

I really think you are trying to find something that everyone else has already decided isn't needed.

Good luck

Yes, I've tried it and I just didn't like it.

I looked at the Pathfinder.  But there is not alot of explanation on their web site.  Also no price listed and no way to place an order.  And it appears the only way to get it is to order from them.  I would think they are losing tons of business by not selling it online.  But I guess that's their choice.  Allison Tool, if you're listening, at least list a price and set up a page online to order it.

You seem awfully concerned with aesthetics If this is indeed the case, why not have a custom turret cut by Kenton?

Might be an option.  I have a Kenton elevation turret on the scope of my 6.5 Grendel.  I like it, Kenton does very nice work.  It's only good for one particular load obviously, but it's easy to put on and take off as the situation dictates.
